Had a new one happen to me yesterday, running the a/c at home mostly to keep humidity down and comfortable at night. Well I’m playing Mr.Mom staying home watching the kids and being lazy, and I’ll be darned if it wasn’t freaking cold in the house, finally checked the temp…… 63…. yikes! Turns out the a/c was stuck on, being in normally have way too much time spent on the Internet, I remember reading a thread elsewhere, about a/c and a lot of times its a simple thing like a contactor acting up, normally it just doesn’t work, in my case it stuck closed.(on.)

Quick call to my buddy, did some simple trouble shooting (hey a 4 year old Can be helpful! She helped me turning the a/c on and off) and we suspected the contactor was stuck in the on postion. Stopped by the local appliance place fearing a $70-80 part, $15 and a hour of my time, (most of it driving to get the part) I’m back on business! So happy… and feeling “cool” again! Plan on picking up a spare, can’t imagine what a service call would’ve cost.

Just sharing a story, maybe it’ll help someone else out on a hot summer day.

Lol i/o’s scare me too, a lot of motor with some difficult access, from the very few I’ve dealt with. I’ll wish you good luck though! Often times I get lucky cause I’m cheap, and I know, some things are (usually) easy fixes just costly to have someone else to do the work.

And then there are things that are just better off to bite the bullet and spend the money one, a good skilled mechanic tends to be one of them.
