After my last trip to Rainy on Memorial weekend, my camera got wet in the rain and is now in the garbage.

I am looking for a less expensive camera in the $100.00 range that will take good clear photo’s. I have no issues with a video also but I would rarely use it if ever.

Simply looking for a camera for the boat to take photo’s of the rare nice fish I catch.

What brands would fit this bill?

    Thanks for any suggestions.

    One thought Tom,

My FD is extremely hard on cameras. When she breaks her’s I email the company and ask what the repair price is. So far it’s been about $80-$90. They come back looking like new except for case scratches. That’s less than 1/2 price of a new Sony what ever model I have.

    Just a thought.

Picked up a Canon PowerShot A3000 IS for $99 Office Max .

Canon has introduced the PowerShot A3000 IS and A3100 IS to top its A series of budget compacts. They become the first A series cameras to be built around Lithium Ion rechargeable batteries, rather than AA cells, giving around 230 shots per charge (based on standard tests). Both share the same 35-140mm equivalent (4x) image-stabilized zoom lens and 2.7″ LCD screen, with the A3100 offering a 12MP CCD sensor, rather than the A3000’s 10MP CCD. In line with their price tags, both cameras feature only VGA movie capability. Both are SDXC compatible.

I have a Nikon Cool Pic that has been great. Actually we have had 2. Nice for the money. I recently got my wife a Olympus that takes awesome pictures. There are some deals around on those also under $100. Just my 2 cents worth.

Whether or not you have to spend a few extra bucks (prices on these have come waaay down recently), just buy a digital WATERPROOF camera and forget about repairs/breakage… Due to water problems, at least.

I had bought a Pentax Optio and am satisfied.

Another option, get a waterproof case or even just a waterproof/floatable storage bag and always put it away after a photo op.

Yep,my next one will be waterproof.Lost one to rain in the boat a couple years ago.Now have a Cannon PowerShot that I love but have had two close calls with water.Got a kayak for fishing and water is everywere all the time.Lexan case works but is a pain in the .Looked at the Olympus Tough a little but not played with one.Like said above they started out four something, now down below $300.Even if the will not do everything I want,it would be a good hunt fish camera.

I just bought a Kodak playsport video camera. It’s about 1 Benjamin and it’s waterproof. Just a little toy to have around, but no flash means pretty lousy photos. The video looks to be good quality.

I’ve had a Pentax Optio going on 5 yrs, along with a waterproof / floatable bag when not in use. Used in rainy, freezing conditions many times that fried prior cameras. good luck…….
