Campground along WI – LM coast???

I’m looking for campsites somewhere around the Lake Michigan coast (within 20 minutes drive, anyway). I’ve checked all of the state parks, and most of them fill up fast. I’m wondering what sort of county parks or other campgrounds are close by to a LM port that might be worth checking out. No specific dates, basically just for future reference…

I don’t much care which port I fish out of – anywhere from Kenosha to Door County would be fine, just looking for options for when I plan future trips. (Although Port Washington is my “normal” port that I fish out of — I’m opten to a change of scenery, though)

We normally stay with relatives when we fish the big lake. While free lodging is great, 1.5 hours each way to the lake gets old when you are usually on the water by 3am.

Any / all suggestions are welcome!

    Thanks,

    Mike

If you are willing to go out to Washington Island, there is a campground there, I think it’s called “East Camp” that I stay at a lot. It’s nice and it’s only 5 minutes to the water. only full on holiday weekends.

Other than that, I use the state camps. IF you show up at ?10am? you can take immediate advantage of the no-shows. I’ve got a 90% success rate at that, with the exception of holiday weekends, of course. But, that does drag you off the water. One of the times I routinely violated the ‘no tie’ rule at the local docks…

I found the fishing so much better up north, that i really don’t know that much about southern options…

I’m going in the last week of August, (Lord willing…) Maybe we can link up.

Seagull Marina in Two Rivers. Been going there for 25 years, they have camping, boat launch, boat slips, fish cleaning station, restaurants nearby. Scott’s a great guy, runs a very accommodating place. Good luck!

Definately tent camping! There are some campsites right by the water! A long and grueling 10 foot walk and you’re at your boat waiting for you in the slip.
