Mille Lacs Boat anchor/cleat questions

I have a 17 foot boat and anchor up on Mille Lacs with a spike anchor.
My cleat that I tie off of is too far from the front and the boat swings from side to side in the wind.
I have a hard time reaching the eye of bow where the tow strap would generally go,so I can not tie off down there.
If I attach a new cleat closer to the front of the boat it would interfere with the boat cover when trailering.
    Any idea’s?

Sometimes I run my anchor rope through the eye and then to a cleat while unloading my boat, before I go out, if I know I’m going to be anchoring. It’s kind of a hassle sometimes, but it’s better than drilling more holes in your boat.

X2. Try this and if need be hang a wind sock off the back.

The following product works great. (it is the “deuce” product. Past the following link into your browser and then go to products. Select the “deuce”. Well worth it. It also helps to not have to put as much rope out since it absorbs the shock of the waves.

Tie the anchor rope on the bow loop, then tie a rope 10 feet down the anchor rope and run to a cleat, to retrieve the anchor rope when pulling up Had to do this on the old closed bow I used to fish out of, works great

X2 on the drop and stay. Use the duce as suggested or just the single to hook to your bow hook and the other end to your anchor rope, leave some slack in the anchor rope and tie it off at any forward cleat or rail. Just grab the rope and pull in the anchor when you are ready to go. Dump the rope in a pail so it does not tangle when you want to let it out at the next stop. With the bungee you will not have to have as much rope out to stay put either.

Yes a drop-n-stay should do the trick I own the original and the duece. I use the original when its rough and I just clip it on in the harbor before heading out. I tuck it in my front compartment to keep it from flapping around while i’m running. It really cuts down on the amount of rope you need to let out and that helps eliminate alot of the swaying too. Another thought is to put your stern mount trolling motor down and set it to pull against the anchor rope or in the direction you want to fish.

Hey guys, just found this thread. If anybody has any questions on the Drop-n-Stay let me know. I check this board often.

Side note, did you see Skarlis’s weight yesterday?? He just won a 3 day event on the first day. WOW.

Rich, it’s not over until Brett King sings.

I’m not certain why they let Tommy weigh that 25 pound catfish in his total bag.

Brett is on fire this year and 24lbs is a heck of a weight in these conditions. I figure upper 50’s wins this so Tommy need to catch 10lbs in two days.

I bet it is a shoot out for second between Maury and Brett.

I am also curious to see if Tommy runs this up or sandbags his good areas for future events. I guess it all depends on the popularity of the spots he is fishing.

I bolted a “gripper” onto the bow plate of my walk-thru boat. This keeps the anchor line striaght out the front. It was something like a $10 investment and it works like a charm.
