I turned 60 June 4th and my daughter was in the hospital, nothing bad though and heres the story. The wife and I were up at 5:00 that morning and we got a phonecall from our daughter at 5:20 and she was in labor with severe labor pains. She says mom I’m getting contractions every 3 minutes, she yelled and I knew it was serious and knew it was my daughter on the phone but didn’t know what she had just said. The wife says Dan get dressed Jennahs in labor.
She lives about 6 miles from the hospital and knowing this I was putting on my t-shirt while running to our truck to go to her house to take her to the hospital. I drove to her house and got my grandaughter dressed while my daughter was immoble on the couch. I got my grandaughter in the Yukon and came back in for Jennah, got her in the Yukon and off we went. I ran every red light there was on the way to the hospital and arrived in time.
On the way there heres my daughter moaning from the pain with her feet up on the dash and spread eagle laying back in the seat trying to ease the pressure of the soon to be delivery and childbirth. We got there in time and I got her into the wheelchair and up to the 3rd floor and when the nurses seen her it was obvious what was going on.
They got her to the closest room and did thier examinations and a few hours later I had a brand new grandson, my first! After she was able to relax a little she looked at me and said,,,Dad I’m sorry I couldn’t get you anything for your birthday. I looked at her and said Jennah you just gave me the best birthday present I could have ever gotten. I was very humbled and rubbed her shoulder and told her to just relax and don’t worry about a regular birthday present. She was due in another week and she was going to buy me something that day but a detour changed things,,,for the better.
It just goes to show that if you spend time with your kids when thier young and try to instill in them whats important and what isn’t that it does come back to you. Appreciation from my daughter is what I got along with a new grandson on my birthday, it doesn’t get much better.
