Rod repair question

I’ve got a custom made rod made in 2002 with a Loomis IMX blank. The varnish is coming off and looks very bad. I would like to remove all the varnish and put new on it. What is the best way to get the old varnish off without ruining the thread wraps on the eyes. Any suggestions would be appreciated. There are no rod repair shops in my area. Thanks

Are you wanting to replace the finish along the entire rod blank or are you specifically talking about the finish over the thread wrap?

The entire blank.. I was hoping it could be done without re-wrapping the guides.

Call G. Loomis and ask them what they can do for you. They are usually pretty good with customer service. At least they used to be.

    John,
do you really think they might help, even with a blank that was made by a rod builder and not the factory. i’m sure the varnish was put on the blank by the guy that made the rod and he is out of business. I guess it couldn’t hurt to make a phone call.

Hard to say. Its their blank so they may help you out even though the rod was built privately. Never hurts to call and ask.
