Monster Bass on Mazaska

Some kid came up to me in school today and preceded to tell me he caught a 26in bass on Mazaska this weekend. I then told him he was full of poop and that lake couldn’t hold a bass that big and it would easily be over 10lb. He then told me his bass weighed 8lb. I laughed in his face and told him the state record was only 23.5in long and it weighed over 8lb. This kid said he is getting it mounted right now but I am sure he is lying. Anyways is it even possible for a bass to reach that size in MN? I know fish grow until they die but that seems ubsurd. If one could grow that size i doubt it would be in Lake Mazaska by Fairibault.

    Not believable without proof.

    Well,

If it is a kid you go to school with, just tell him you want to see it. If he says it is at the taxidermy shop, go there and look at it.

    My Fishing Motto:
Never say never and never believe what you never saw.

Ok, I just made that up.

But seriously, is it possible? Sure. It is also possible I may win the WSOP Main Event AND The Bassmaster Classic this year.

i’ve caught two over 7lbs in that lake when I “bass” fished but as far as a 26″ prolly no way. but 8 lbs. i could see easily there is so much bait and habitat in the lake that alot of the bass never get touched along with minimal deeper water bass fishing happening on the lake. but that is a little secret

I’d say of course it is possible,
it is quite a fertile lake, and has BASS in it for a very long time.

Don’t count him out, I’d have to agree that it is very possible.

Pics would be fun and some measurements.

It is possible, a couple years ago I released a 24″ largemouth I caught on a small lake by Pelican Rapids. I have some pics too. I didn’t have a tape measure with me so I laid it down next to my rod and marked the rod so I could measure it. I took pics of it laying by the rod too. I actualy thought it was around 20″-21″ or I probably would have weighed it. A friend caught a longer one out of season that he released near Grand Rapids.

I would still not believe him till I saw it though.

There are some real large Bass in that lake. Lots of vegetation and feed, so I’d have to say that an 8 lb Bass is very possible.

Seems one always is leary of a big fish even if one sees the photo.

No reason at all why it could not be true.

I would say if it is true, it will be in the news some time.
