I have a Yamaha 150 4 stroke. Looking to get a different prop, just to have a spare. My hole shot seems fine and my top end I am happy with also, 41-44mph. I am wondering to get stainless steel or just the aluminum. Any suggestions or comments.

Generally speaking, a comparative SS prop will probably provide a bit more top-end and some additional efficiencies to aluminum. The metal does not flex (as much) and so it’s more efficient, but it costs more. If you are operating in shallow water with many obstacles (rocks, logs, etc) aluminum may be right for you, since you run a greater risk of striking bottom with your prop. If you’re in deep water or with a very soft bottom, you may find benefit to boating with a SS prop.

I would say if it is only a spare then you could get an aluminum prop. You may want to try to get it from a place that will let you run it and see if it works correctly for your setup if you are running a stainless now. The aluminum may run at a lower rpm than your stainless so you may need to go down in pitch to get similar performance to your current prop.
