My buddy and I decided to make a quick trip up to Mille Lacs and fish Saturday afternoon until Sunday at noon. When we arrived, the wind had really picked up and while most people were heading in, we ventured out into the big waves. Our first fishing spot netted my partner two nice eyes including one that was over 23″. As evening approached, we decided to pull crankbaits on a reef and despite the big rollers, we managed to catch three fish inclduing back-to-back fish for my partner measuring 27″ and 27.5″!! I finally caught my first walleye and it was 25″ in length.
Got up early the next morning and fished the reef again. After not getting anything, we moved to the north end of the lake and caught one keeper. With two hours left to fish, we decided to try fishing near the rocks as the wind had really died down. We fished for about two hours and my partner caught another 27″ and a 26.5″ as well. I pulled out three fish including a 25″ and a 23″ fish. All in all, we pulled seven nice ‘eyes from this spot before we had to leave. We didn’t want to risk the wives not letting us go again!
We wound up catching 14 fish and 11 of them were 21″ or bigger. Overall, a great “big fish” trip and we can’t wait to get back to the “pond” again.
Having trouble posting pictures – will try to do so in a little bit.
