Just shopped and bought a Taurus 709 Slim Stainless.

Gander: $449 Staff – no knowledge of the 709 or comparable pistols.

Cabelas: $429 Staff – good, competent knowledge

Bill’s Gunshop: $399 plus free range pass and free use of any of their rental firearms. Staff – Expert knowledge

Plus Gander is about $2/box higher for 9mm box 50 range ammo.

Bill’s is good! I live about a mile from it, too. I just wish their range was a bit cheaper

Element Arms in Becker is great for prices, too. $351 for the blued 709 Slim, $362 for the stainless 709 Slim (plus a little bit to ship) But, no free range pass and rental.

Good to know. I will check Bills next time. I had a nice experience buying my last one at Joe’s.
I just shake my head when entering Gander anymore. Self service at best.

Anyone looking to purchase a handgun, check out Southwest Arms in Savage, he runs it out of his house, and in my experience, always has the best price, including online prices.

they are on Facebook, or on a lot of the gun forums, goes by the name ThunderJohn.

Is that gun range west on 42 (Burnsvillie?) still open???

That was by far a safer range than Bill’s over northside, hopefully Bill’s has gotten better since I used to shoot there.

What do you mean by that? I’ve never felt unsafe there.

I’m a bit biased but my folks have a shop between Zumbrota and Wanamingo. They have an outdoor range so you can shoot used guns before buying them. Its called Froyum Sports and their number is 507-824-2372.

More times than I care to remember I or someone else ended up looking down a barrel of some pistol as the group that was sharing it were discussing what ever it was they were talking about.

Like I said, it’s been awhile.

Yeah, that is no good. Haven’t had any of those issues (that I have noticed) recently.

I have found that the big box stores rarely compete price wise with my local gun shop (Hart Bros in Albert Lea). Sure, sometimes Cabelas has a super sale on something, but they always seem to have just sold the last one when I get there. So the last 5 or so firearm purchases I have made went to the local guy. Future ones will too.
