Wiring a new Humminbird???

Just wired a bird through my electrical panel under my dash.
Its hooked up to my starting battery which is 650 CCA.
Problem is when I start the boat the Humminbird shuts off due to lack of power/amps.I have an Optimax 115 Merc.Motor.
Should I run a separate dedicated line from the battery to the Humminbird? Will a 650 CCA battery direct wired to the bird work for the motor and the Humminbird?
Or can I just step up in battery size to a starting battery of 1000 CCA?

    Thanks for the input,

    Mike

I would guess it is a ground problem, with that said, Go direct to the battery.

I had the same issue with my 1197. I forgot what gage wire is recommended, but I would go direct to the battery and don’t forget to put an inline fuse of the appropriate size in. That took care of the “lack” of power for me

Totally agree with Randy, use the correct gauge wire and put in a inline fuse. These units are way to expensive to damage with the incorrect wire size or lack of a fuse.

In my boat, I have 3 batteries. One for the main motor, one for the trolling motor and another for my 2 Birds.

Extra weight and cost with 3 batteries but never an issue with power anywhere.
