A MN angler is making a stand for all of us…

Win, lose or draw, Steve Fellegy is taking a stand on Indian netting. And he needs help. No one man can carry this alone.

    http://www.idofishing.com/forum/showflat.php/Number/1008842/fpart/1/the-casstoday-that-begins-the-end

Every spring anglers from all over the midwest spend 6 weeks in the Mille Lacs forums talking about how much they despise the netting. Yet now, when someone is taking a stand and is on the way to his day in court, very few of those vocal anglers have offered any assistance. What gives? There’s no magic wand that will wave to reverse this type of discrimination. It takes people willing to make it happen through their voices, energy and financial support.

Get involved or forever hold your peace.

    James

I have checked this out before and I am willing to help,I just am wondering,do you or anyone else here, know what the status of this case is?
Is it being heard, or are the prosecuteres/courts just trying to avoid the issue all together.
It seems to be the strategy of the State Goverment is to avoid any prosecution at all, and therefore avoid the issue all together.

This can’t be avoided. You now have the tribes netting in the Mpls. area lakes and they also plan to net by Bemidji again this year.

These issues aren’t going away until the courts determine the old treaties are still valid and enforceable.

I’m sending Mr. Fellegy a donation today. I would urge others to do the same. This is more than just fishing, this is a violation of our rights. I’ve cited the same “one nation” for years. We don’t even have to start on the illegal casinos, the “welfare” aspect of it. Lets just see what we can do the level the playing field with fishing for right now. Think about how much you spend on fishing every year and donate a small percentage of it. Email your legislators, Minnesota. Wisconsin is here to help. Maybe we can be next!

Thanks guys…tell your friends and relatives who may not frequent IDO. We have this one chance to make a statement. Steve is willing to take this to the Supreme Court if possible. That is where the “Change” will occur. There are updates in the Mille Lacs Forum for those who want to read up on this…

I have been helping Steve with some fund raising by having a local printing company come up with a flyer to promote Steve’s case. There is a fund raising box at Vados Bait Shop in Spring Lake Park, Mn. If your in there, and if you have not contributed, please contribute. It’s not only Steve’s case, but affects all of us.

Check….Will be in the mail. GO STEVE!! How about also asking our State leaders to put a horse in this race. Not willing to comment would be my guess…….. Leadership on this IMO has to come from above. Corruption is simply running rampant in the political arena. I say ban together and invest the $$ to focus a campaign on avoiding every location that serves or sells walleye. Too radical you say?? I assure you WE enable the evil we resent. Guys like you and I rarely are singled out though right?? Hmnnnn? Seem Odd?? Sure we can try our luck again in our faulty judicial system, and yes I applaud the effort 100%. It is Bold to say the least. Still I think crushing the demand may be the only way to stomp out the economic backing of the massive coordinated efforts of federally authorized poaching. How about a Billboard on every major roadway heading north saying “Minnesota Anglers “Catch” THEIR OWN Walleyes and Boycott buying them!!” Minnesota anglers also MIGHT be saying they are sick of being fleeced with highly restrictive slots as nets murder the Juicy 3-4lb fish in the most vulnerable period. Fishing license sales are down 30%?? Hmnnnnnn. Lets fund a campaign to CRUSH the demand. We can name the entity that sells or serves the walleyes. We can choose to boycott the boys with “Dirty Scales” on their hands. IF YOU REALLY want to make a difference you will have to lay it down on the line to friends and fellow business owners. There are PLENTY….. PLENTY of Non-Natives that are equally contributing to this problem only in a more “White Collar” arena. Crush the demand..Crush the supply. Economics 101 and then my friends you are not dependant on a Flawed Court System that may very likey make us cringe once again.

The following is a note I sent Mr. Holst late yesterday. But I feel a need to share it with all of you at IDO as well. I want all of you to know my thoughts here. If you didn’t know by now, you need to know and be confident that your efforts will be the reason my venture will succeed. In the end, when (not if) we meet our mission statement goals, it will be, soley, because of all of you funding this effort. WE have the right plan in place. (never used in this regard before) and the right team on the field. The key link will be the public support. My note to Mr. Holst (and all of you)

    ” Mr. Holst,

I just got in off the water and have been brought to tears reading the IDO support you have offered my efforts today.

Please feel free to call me and I will fill you in on the details of how this effort is going and planned. I can also have them send you a copy of the Trust if there is any concern in that regard( 16 pages hard copy only). I have zero access to any of that, including accounting etc. I get general updates from the Trustees and that is it. It was my choice to be completely out of the picture when it came to the funding. No one can ever accuse me nor the Trust of mis-representing everyones funding intentions.

I don’t feel comfortable posting too much on this, yet in recent days I have had no choice but to do a speech here and there to rally support. So thanks for taking the ball on my behalf and running with it.

Believe me, this not about me, it is all about walleyes, rights, and the future of both. If I felt I had a choice, or better option, I surely would not have taken this on. And when WE get the job done, as a group, a voting public group of true Americans, the credit will and should go to all who helped fund this. Because in the end, without the funding, however good my legal team plans are, or however crazy I have been to initiate the effort, it will mean nothing.

Mr. Holst…you bring tears to my eyes……thanks.”

    Steve,
I can only imagine the up-hill battle you have embraced. Residents of WI. have protested the Spring spearing here, and looked to our elected officials for a suitable solution…with no success. I will be watching with great anxiety as the outcome may lead to the domino affect with re-negotiating treaties. I wish you the most success with this as it may lead to a better future for WI as well.

    Thank You!

    Randy,

Steve isn’t looking to have the treaties renegotiated( I don’t think) he is looking for the same rights as those afforded the Tribes in regards to out of season fishing. Equal protection under the law is the vehicle they have chosen to get the issues back into the Federal court systems.

I hope that is the way it is working. It’s my understanding anyway. I’m sure somebody will hop on here and correct me if I’m wrong.

    Brian,
Maybe my wording of “re-negotiating” wasn’t the best chose of words. If Steve’s pursuit is successful, I see an opportunity for other states to follow suit and make positive changes

This is the next step… get your friends involved and motivated. Sending off a donation is AWESOME but the power to affect change lies in getting large numbers of supporters involved.

The weekend is coming up and many of us will be fishing. Make this a topic of discussion in your boat, at your camp, in the bar. This is not about hate or “anti-anyone”… it is about equal rights and protections guaranteed to all citizens by the US Constitution. Our government has failed us by creating special economic privilege, status and rights based solely on race which flies directly against every principal this country was founded on.

So… homework assignment… talk with your friends this weekend. You have friends, right?! Remind them that netting isn’t something limited to waters they never fish. This is coming to a lake and river near YOU.

If every member on a fishing website would send a donation, I am sure that would take Steve a long ways in our battle.
