Let the Boat Parade Begin. Should be a steady stream of boats heading north today. My office is right on HWY 65 in Blaine and I have a front row seat to watching many of them going by. There where plenty of boats on the road yesterday being pulled around the twin cities. So far this morning the north bound parade has been slow but Im sure that by noon that will pick up a lot. Its good to see all this fishing activity taking place. Guess if you are from mn its hard not to get excited about fishing opener.

Good luck to everyone heading out this weekend. Catch a big one.

Just seen a small Lund Rebel go by that looked to have just about everything but the kitchen sink loaded into it. A couple of cars behind him was a van with a canoe. Wish I had more time to sit and watch the parade today. Im sure just about every thing that was ever made to float will be coming by at one point during the day.

I counted 37 boats heading north on my way into work this morning. 27 of those were counted between Zimmerman and ELk River, and the remaining 10 from Elk River to N. Mpls.

I wish I was one of them but the boss had other plans!

Lots of boats started showing up in Alexandria last night. Luckily I get to work today and tommorrow so I can watch them all. I can’t complain to much though as I will be meeting my uncle at the access at 0500. I work till 2130 friday night. Then go to a friends engagement party and then up by 0400. I have to work again at 1300 so it will be a long day.

The older rigs are some of my favorite to see go by. Older 16′ boats with a 15 or 20hp on it. You know those rigs have a lot of history to them and imagine have seen a fair amount of small and quiet bodies of water in mn.

I also get a kick out the guys heading by with big pick up campers with boats in tow or even boats flipped over on top. Makes me think they are heading for a traditional MN fishing opener weekend. Havent seen one yet today but a real classic is the guy with a pick up camper, boat flipped over on top, towing another small boat and that has a canoe or other boat flipped on top of that. That there is classic stuff.

Okay I better get out of here and get some work done today.

Gotta love fishing openers. Its always exciting to see all the boats getting trailered around. Its also a weekend where many people figure out there boat does not work

I’ll be joining the boat parade at about 3:30 today. It wasn’t easy driving into work today on 94 and watching the boats go the other way. Its OK I’ll be that guy heading North on Thursday next week while everyone else is heading to work for 2 more days.

Yep. You always see those one that make you think “there is no possible way they are going to make it very far”.

I think the main goal is to just get there. They don’t care if they make it back!

Thats the beauty of living next to Mille Lacs, you dont have to join the boat parade, you just have to drive a ton of miles the other days to get to work!
