    Dean, I only met you in a drop in visit.. but You and BK were top notch.. it will be a long while before you get minnow water out of your veins.. probably never completely , as every bait shop you stop into, you will want to jump into action, should they get a rush.. I know because I still have that same feeling, even when I was in your store..

    We spoke of what that store was like 20 plus years ago, and how it had changed.. it changed because YOU WERE THERE..

    I wish you well my friend. enjoy life, and knowing that if you get up tomorrow morning and the sucker tank is overflowing, YOU DON”T HAVE TO CLEAN IT UP..

    thanks for just the time that we spent together one cold fall afternoon..

    I hear Pool 2 calling your name Dean! We could use a good guy like yourself up in these parts. Give it some thought.

    You were the best, bar none, that Everts and Pool 4 will ever know. I wish ya nothing but the best!

    I remember my first day down to P4 like it was yesterday. I also remember you telling me and my buddy where they were biting and how to get them. You also then informed us on how to be safe on the river and it was a lesson I will never forget. Thank you so much Dean.

    The real testimony to you is the 7 screens (and growing) of compliments to you. When I logged in this AM ther were no replies yet, but I was a tad too emotional to write anything.

    In the past seven years (and approx 25 trips) you have become much more than a resort manager to me and the rest of the Yooper Invasion regulars. Your kindness, honest information, and hospitality were above and beyond anyones expectations. Your fishing expertise and frequent updates on Pool 4 shortened the “learning Curve” for hundreds, if not thousands of IDO members and guests.

    Your position can be replaced my friend but you cannot…

    Here is my wish for you and your future…

    God grant me the serenity

    to accept the things I cannot change;

    courage to change the things I can;

    and wisdom to know the difference.

    Living one day at a time;

    Enjoying one moment at a time;

    Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;

    Taking, as He did, this sinful world

    as it is, not as I would have it;

    Trusting that He will make all things right

    if I surrender to His Will;

    That I may be reasonably happy in this life

    and supremely happy with Him

    Forever in the next.

    Amen.

    Here’s my wishing the best for the best. What a shocker. Since the mid 1960’s Dean, you were and still are the #1 Everts man in charge. Best of luck on your future endeavors, Dean.

    Think the guys have said it best–time and time again. Somebody told me a long time ago “you can’t replace quality”. From all of us that consider you family–thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Even roads covered with longstem roses have thorns along the way–but sometimes hard times are blessings in disguise-this is only a stepping stone for better days. Still, with Dean leaving Evert’s part of me (as with others too)left with him.
    Good luck my friend——–heck, I see a silver lining already, you won’t miss the 1)bluegill bite 2) brooktrout bite 3) first icefishing 4)GET TO FISH PERIOD! 4)Get to sit in a deerstand during gun without the sewer backing up—I could go on and on…………….here’s a 8 coffee guy salute for ole Deano!

    Dean, you are a stellar example of what the fishing industry should be all about. If your not too burnt out on customer service you should look into being a rep for one of the larger wholesalers or a manufacturer. You would excel at it, good luck!

    I was just sitting here trying to think what it’s going to be like coming to Red Wing with you not there. Not a pleasant thought. I’ve been going to Red Wing since the 80’s and the best was while you were there. You are one classy guy!!!! Nothing but the best for you BIG BOY!!!!!!!!

    I’m honored to have had the time to get to know you over the last few years. Beyond that I was able to call you my friend. I do have to correct you on something, in your letter you said you played “a small part” in fishing out of Evertt’s. You are wrong my friend, you played a large part!! From the tackle to the advice you played a giant part in getting folks on fish. Even when fishing wasn’t great you always gave up some great conversation when we came in the shop.

    Evertt’s never was Everrt’s in my book, we always said we are going down to Dean’s!!

    This is a giant loss to our fishing community and I hope to see you up on your feet soon. All my walleye tackle will still be purchased through Dean’s Tackle Box. You have my support in anything you do.

    I remember the first time I went to Pool 4 and stopped at Everts.

    Dean showed me what to use and where to fish.

    Dean went out of his way and had never seen me before.

    Those qualities are very hard to find anymore today.

    This morning I felt a huge disturbance in the “Force”. I logged on to see why. I can’t add much more than has already been said, but one thing I can say is your try and buy policy almost made me go broke. In all seriousness, I have never seen the attention to customer service and willingness to share fishing info to complete strangers and fools like me just to ensure we had a great time both at Everts and on the water. It has helped me become a better fisherman all around and I believe a better person for having known you. There is a huge hole in pool four that I can not believe will ever be filled. Good luck with all your future endeavors and stop in here once in a while and let us know how things are going.

    Deano,
    I am so sad to read this news. I hope the “JACK” who is taking over managing the resort knows he will NEVER fill your shoes. That would be impossible! Thank you (from Andy and I) for your great company, fishing tips & stories, and most importantly – your friendship.

    P.S. Call me if you are ever looking for someone to fish with – you know I am always trying to fish the river (and with Andy’s new work schedule, that is nearly impoossible for me). I am happy to pay for gas, bait, food, beverages, insurance, whatever… Take care my friend, Ro

    Dean,

    I’d like to sit here and dwell on all the great things you have done for all of us, for the resort, for the community and for fishing on the river….You are 2nd to none..period, and trust we will all feel sadness at your leaving. Good luck, my most sincere best wishes for your future, and with any luck at all, my path will cross yours again in the future. Friendships like yours are never meant to end. Frank Lukes

    Dean, I can’t image your feelings right now, sure it’s been said before in many different ways, but you’re a rare breed of awesome.

    Though I’m sure you have endless offers, you’re more than welcome to join me in the field any day.

    Honest to god, Dean is the main reason I went to Evert’s Contrary to what some people believe, there are only short periods of time that Evert’s in the only game in town, Overall it’s cost me the same or less in gas to launch for free elsewhere, In fact and there are bait shops along the way, of course and tackle needs can be taken care of through the best online tackle site…

    I can spend my money anywhere I choose, I happily choose places that are happy to have me and my business and Yeah, I’ll go out of my way to do so.

    Situations like this are still unbelievable…

    We should morn this day with an Annual cookie bake sale.

I know you wont have any trouble. When in town stop by and say Hi. Ever need a fishing partner call. Dont forget your welcome to stay at my place at Mille Lacs if you and Lynn ever want to go. Thank you for everything you tried to teach me and all the things you taught me without even knowing it. Alex and I will miss seeing you at Everts and, come to think about it, we may be missing Everts altogether as our main reason for being there is now gone. I especially want to thank you for the enthusiasm you showed towards my son Alex. Your encouragement of his fishing efforts last year did more to instill a desire to learn to fish than his dad could accomplish. For this I am in your debt. Good Luck and we hope to see you on the water. There is always room in and right next to my boat for you.

    Dean, it’s obvious from all the replies here, that you are one of the good guys. Do not think otherwise for even a second. You will be missed at Evert’s but the friends you have found will definitely want to stay in touch with you wherever you go. I wish you the very best -Good luck.
