Prescott boat lauch etiquette

For the past 10 years, I’ve been launching my boat in Prescott and never had any issues.. Until last weekend. What I normally consider etiquette, was tossed out the window. I am waiting to launch my boat and see an old guy coming in to the dock. I assume he is going to tie his boat up to the end of the dock, or the other side to allow other people to launch while he gets his truck and trailer. (in this case his car and trailer)
Well I start to back my boat in and this guy jumps out of his boat and starts screaming at me. “What the F*** is your problem, can’t you see I’m about to pull my boat out???!!” I tried to explain to him that people normally tie up at the end out of others way, and then they go get their truck. This guy was still freaking out on me.. I decided, you can’t teach stupid people etiquette, so I pulled my truck up and out of the way, and let this jerk tie up the launch for the next 10 minutes… just makes me mad…

We launched there this weekend and just missed some issues. Us and another guy pulled into the lot and rigged our boats out of the way. We then launched ours and I helped the other guy launch his because he was by himself (held the rope while he backed it in since it was so shallow you would have to walk through the water to get out of your vehicle). After we both got out of there without an issue I see the next vehicle come along and for some reason they decide to sit in the way and get their stuff ready (never understood why people must park in the way when putting stuff into their boat).

Later in the day when we passed the launch we say a minivan trying to put in a pontoon boat He backed up until he thought water was going to come into the rear hatch and the toons still weren’t touching the water He tried a couple more times before just driving away.

Some people only think of themselves.

Every so often I run into one and just sit back and wait until they are done.

They do not get it and I do believe they simply don’t care.

More times than not, I will park my truck and help them so they get out of there as soon as possible.

I have seen some unbelievable behavior at this Launch, people just have to learn to relax. I am usually in my Hip boots when I pull out so I spend time helping people put in and pull out. You would not believe how many couples I help and the Guy never says thank you.

That’s not just Prescott, that’s every landing. They think they own it. Get out of the way when you launch so others can and stay out of the way till you have your truck.

Miserable people won’t be happy until the rest of us are miserable too.

And that is a fishing fact.

Lol! This same thing happened to me a couple years ago at the Isle public ramp on Millacs. Guy pulled his boat to the dock ahead of others waiting to load the polite way. One of em jumps out and heads to get his truck. I thought the guy in the boat would move around to open up the ramp so the 6 or so trucks waiting in line could do their thing.

Nope, he sits there holding onto the dock, blocking it for everyone else and it wsa my turn to back in. I asked him if he could please move around the dock some so the ramp would be open and everyone could continue to use the ramp. He protests some and I point out that his buddy cannot even get to the ramp until the boats in line clear out. He walks the boat around to the end of the dock, well the bow anyways, and to my surprise he tries to step off the boat onto the dock and hold the boat with one foot!!!

The inevitalbe happens and his boat moves away from the dock and his legs spread wider and wider till he falls in the drink! Mind you, this was fall walleye fishing, late Oct. water was COLD!!!! You could just about see the steam coming off his head as he came to the surface he was so PO’d. I ran down to make sure he was alright, still dumbfounded by what I just saw. Someone waiting in a boat grabbed his and brought it over to the dock again. Everyone shifted around a bit to let them load up and get the wet guy into the warm truck. Unbelieveable!

Everybody’s not bad thank goodnes, I had our boat start to drift off at a launch after the mooring rope broke when launching and some guy in his boat went and retrived it for us, I was not looking forward to swiming after the boat in late Sept weather.

There are some good people out there and I try to be, but ya…some just pi$$ ya off.

Lines starts with vehicles and trailers in my opinion. Not the boat unless unusual situation.

He was probably grouchy after a full day of waking on the Croix.

The boat blocking the ramp thing happens ALL THE TIME in the twin cities metro area.

I try to help people, show them how to launch etc. Grays bay on Minnetonka has seperate tie up docks (really nice ones with bumpers all around), no cleats to tie up to on the launch docks AND signs saying not to do it. Does that stop people…..nope. It doesen’t even stop people from making excuses on why they can tie up there after I politley tell them “hey just so you know for next time you can’t tie up to these docks”.

Oh well, it’s just part of the deal if you want to launch your boat on a popular lake June-August I guess.
