Left over pancakes work great when we trap minnows up in the BWCA. Even better if we throw some oatmeal and some extra oil in any left over mix we might have before pulling the griddle off the coals. A couple oily oatmeal cakes is our “secret” bait that never fails.
What are you after? For most minnows, the above stuff works good. For bullhead, I’ve found nothing works better early season than ground bloody meat. I use old veni trimmings and grind it up, make balls out of it, then freeze. Each trap gets a ball once a day. Traps just started producing this last weekend in my favorite pond, water temp finally up, 10 days later than last year.
Has anybody tried the collpasable net type minnow traps? I got one to keep in the boat and throw out while I’m fishing and have fresh minnows later in the day. Just wondering if they work I won’t get to try mine out for a few weeks yet.
