Ok, so we have a post about crankbaits, but I am looking for a big tacklebox for multipurpose. The requirements is it needs to be big, fabric on outside (not plastic) and versatile. A place for plastics, hook utility boxes, crank, utility boxes, bobbers and a clonk ( ).

To give you an idea, I was looking at this one on Saturday. okeechobee Flats. Holds 7 boxes that it comes with. Not sure where I would put my bulkier boxes though.

Then I saw this one online that wasn’t in-store.
Plano KVD series which holds 10 flat utility boxes.

Anyone own something of this caliber they like or one of the ones I listed. Just looking for some feedback while I look into this further.

    Thanks ahead of time.

I like these Cabela’s bags which hold half a dozen standard 3700 boxes. You can get different variations of the 3700 box to hold just about anything you’d like. If I’m not in my boat, I usually carry an extra deep 3700 with no dividers to hold sunglasses, pliers, etc. I have a whole bunch of 3700 boxes in my garage so I can grab the boxes I need for the day, throw them in the bag, and hit the water. Works great for me.

Thanks. I use just a normal backpack I got from Target or wherever for when I need to go light and being a back pack, it is easy to take anywhere.

I’ll check out the Cabelas bags.

I thought the cabela’s super magnum would be worth a look.

I know I was looking at some FleetFarm bags too, not sure if that one was in stock.

I should also add, top load only, I hate the side loaders.

I have one similar to the first one you posted and like it, plenty of pockets and storage places for everything I need.

Pug, why don’t you just use the guides tackle box/bag?

I have an Okechobee(sp) Fats bag that you described. I am pleased with it. The only thing I dislike is all the tackle I have in it makes it heavy…buts its not a bad problem to have. The best thing about it is that I can fit a small spinnerbait box in the pouch on the inside of the flap while still having room for 7 boxes. Awesome box!

Get one that is waterproof – a friend spent hours drying out all his boxes (that weren’t waterproof) – mine weren’t even wet. We were on a 14 day trip so some of his lures had rust issues by the time we got home to do the dry-out.

Cabela Bags is the way to go. I would look at the waterproof ones also…

I have the same one and love it. It will actually hold 8 boxes without a problem.

Because when people come over to the house, I want to look like a fisherman.

I used an Okeechobee Fats bag for about a year and wasn’t impressed with it. The zippers broke, the mesh netting tore and the color faded.

It doesn’t help that there is normally several pounds of lead slinging around in it though.

You should choose your bag to match the type of fishing you do. With that fats bag, I didn’t utilized 50% of the stuff I brought with me because it was tucked away in some hidden pocket. When I cleaned it out this spring I had stuff I totally forgot about.

I just use one of these now. Waterproof, durable and cheap.

Over the years I have picked up several duffel bags at garage sales. Something like a $1 a piece. I then fill them with plano boxes. Most will hold 4-6 boxes each. Saves a lot of money that I can buy more tackle with. I have one bag for cranks, one for jigs and plastics, one for hooks and and plastics etc. Also easy to mix and match.

If you want to try something that’s little “outside the box,” take a look at this product.

I have 3 of them and they are very useful.

Only Blue would admit to having one yet alone three tackle thongs

FYI: You will NEVER be allowed in my boat with your thong. Bret’s maybe

I also have a Cabelas bag and a top load Shimano bag.

Both are nice and have lasted the test of time.

I really like the fabric top load ones with numerous trays.

I have one with 4 boxes just for jigs.

hey blue fleck, doesn’t look like you were “thinking outside the box” it looks like you were “looking right at the box”

I was going to ask who made that until I realized what it was.

I won’t be putting heavy sinkers or cat gear, because that always will be in the backpack. I actually probably wouldn’t take the box in the boat* all the time either, because it will get in the way many times. Your other complaints don’t give me a lot of confidence in the Okee, thanks.

Did I say “the boat”, I meant “a boat”.

Anywho, maybe I should go with a little smaller box. I make the same mistake with tackle, going bigger than I should. I must be compensating for something.

Neat minimalist concept. I could see using those.

Right now I’m using a Cabela’s bag that holds 5 or 6 Plano 3700’s. It works out pretty well, but in no way holds my zillion lures and plastics. My Lunds storage is CRAMMED full of smaller zip bags. I think I have a problem…
