I haven’t heard any parties mentioned. This is more a spend/waste revenue topic.
Most moderators are up at Rainy anyway, no? Cats away…

First off, nice try.
The initial comments re: light rail didn’t have any republican / democratic lean in my opinion. No party was mentioned. No candidates referenced. That is until the anti-Walker crowd got rolling. As most did a good job ignoring those comments… I’ve decided to let the thread stay. Even if that meant leaving the highly biased pro-democratic postings.
In my opinion as a one time regular rider of the light rail… it is a cosmic joke. It is slow, inefficient and horribly expensive. I can drive my car and park in the expensive downtown lots for a Twins game for $2 more and save 1.5 HOURS of my time traveling back and forth to the game. And THAT is my non-political take on light rail.
April 28, 2011 at 2:44 pm #961531I wouldn’t say they are biased. I would say they use a good amount of common sense.
Arguing for or against light rail and it’s cost is different in my opinion. The threads that go to ripping on a party or politician those don’t seem to last long. You will also notice that people can steer a thread to get nuked very easy.
Many people don’t like my threads. That’s fine, I under stand. But I don’t have a gun to anybodies head to read them either. You will find that ALL my threads in general discussion will have nothing to do with fishing. I’ll generally ask a question in a dedicated forum such as “species” or something if I have a question fishing related. General discussion threads will likely be about sports, general society questions or some other topic that might make people think a little bit. One of my posts “Greatest Rock Bands” was viewed and responded to by nearly 100 people. Does that indicate a lack of interest because it doesn’t pertain to fishing?
Anyway, until I receive a phone call from James personally telling me to straighten up I will continue making posts on topics that some may find interesting, or at least I will find interesting.

X2And there was at least another comment from someone saying it makes his commute longer.
Here we have real world examples and, as far as I know, none to the contrary.
James, you up at Rainy?

To this point the thread has in no way crossed into “political” territory. So far I see very light commentary on spending on lightrail. Nothing about candidates, current leadership or parties save those added by the Anti-Walker crowd.
You’ll now be returned to your regularly scheduled broadcast.

I don’t want to take a position here, but it’s anything but apples and oranges.
Minneapolis is not confined to islands. Lightrail is not built underground. The metro area population is not growing at a rate where our population will be anywhere NY anytime soon. Lightrail also disrupts traffic and businesses, while buses are incorporated into normal traffic. We do have a good transit system here. It is called the MTC buses. Scrap rail and improve on bussing.
Not islands, but we have a big river that runs through the middle of town. The MN comes into play as well. I’m not saying we’ll be as big in New York any time soon, but how about 100 years from now? I don’t know for sure, and neither does anyone else. My only point is, never say never.
I do think we should be considering our mass transit options, and that’s coming from someone who drives a full size pickup in the heart of the cities every day, to and from my office, meetings during the day, the twins game last night, etc. I kind of doubt that I’ll be able to do that forever.
Pug says that the busses are the solution, and maybe that’s right. Still, we’re already stuck with a light rail system. I question its value, along with the rest of you. Should we shut it down? Triple the fares? What’s the solution? I know the point of the post was to complain about what seems to be a waste of money, but it’s not like we can stop it from being spent at this point.

The real point was, is this the time to be spending a billion dollars on light rail while driving tax paying businesses out of business. That was my point, although I didn’t spell it out very well.

Blame me. I made a mess when I rolled around in it.

It did not take long for the one on oil to get dumped, always hard to say how these go.
It is a lot like our president now saying our debt is an issue after adding about 4 trillion plus to it.
Not to mention the state of Mass just followed suit with WI…..

So true. As a group the mods here will try to find a way to let all posts stay. Even if they’re bumping the line from either side. The thinking is that even a lightly heated debate can still stay on point and friendly. Call us eternal optimists… or incredibly naive. I’m honestly not sure which is more accurate. The point is the goal is to stays “hands off” on posts until someone gives us no choice but to pull the trigger.

one of the many reasons IDO is set apart from many other fishing sites. We all BS while fishing, right?
April 28, 2011 at 7:13 pm #961682Got it, Brian. Hard to disagree that it’s a bad time to be hurting business. Of course, there are also businesses building the light rail. Either way, I’d hate to be on the short end of the stick. I live not far from University Ave., and I can tell you that I think twice before heading up there. I feel for the small businesses in the area.
April 28, 2011 at 10:51 pm #961744This definitely is not the time to be complaining about it… that would have been years ago when it was being installed…. but then again, if you complain enough now, so they stop expanding, your argument looks even better… if not now when ??? The light rail goes many more places than Target Field…. I have never been on it but someday I may use it… unless it is only going in circles down by the old dome… Blame the Government !!!! I imagine there were naysayers when the automobile was invented (dam roads, dam ditches, horses/goats work fine for me)….. it takes all kinds

April 29, 2011 at 2:07 am #961775I haven’t caught a decent avatar fish for years…. If the Vikings don’t win soon, I am gonna have to book another trip to Canada, to catch one Yeah, she bugs me too…
