Vikings……..Will Spielman blow the draft?

Spielmans 5 years in Miami proved he could really screw up a draft. Some down there say they are still trying to recover. He, in the past has traded draft picks to move up & down, draft picks for players and just plain picked the wrong people.

We don’t know how much power he has here in regards to the draft. Is it his say alone on who they pick? How much input will rookie coach Frazier have? What about Studwell?

Maybe a better question would be how much influence did Chilly have on the recent drafts.

Draft is tomorrow night and the Vikings need to have a great draft to keep pace.

Who or what position would you like to see them draft #1 with the 12th pick?

They might want to look at a QB with their first pick. If not that, maybe a QB or a QB.

Which QB available at 12 will be a GUARANTEED starter in the NFL?

Just draft a QB with every draft pick–maybe then one will work out! I feel for you guys, it’s going to be hard for the queens to have a good draft this year.

Doc,(and others) I’m a bit surprised the Packer faithful jumped this thread so soon. After all it was only a year ago that they wanted to run McCarthy and Thompson out of Wisconsin. But then I do understand how the sediment over there shifts with the breeze.

How about you start your own thread and leave the Vikings to those who really have something to say?

I’d like to see us trade down a bit and get back a 3rd round pick, but if the Vikes feel their QB of the future is available, you gotta take him right there.

As much we might be able to drop back into the late teens and get the QB we want, there’s just too much unknown that can happen, and we face getting leapfrogged by another QB needy team if we do so.

Spielman has had some quality drafts since he’s arrived in MN, and i’m confident MN can have another one, provided we don’t get too cute and gamble with our chances at a quarterback of the future.

No thanks! It’s more fun to watch Vikings fans suffer the misery that is Brett Favre’s wake!

The vikings are still in Minnesota? Whatever they do they are going to have some work to do not to be last in the North. Poor line play, couldn’t stop the run or the pass, special teams, poor quarterback play are all concerns for any viking fans. I’d plan some fishing trips in the fall to not watch your team get smoked every week.

This is NOT the year to pick a QB. Make a trade for a young veteran like Kolb. Do not waste a 12 pick on a QB that will turn out like TJack!

How about a CB or a new OT?

TJack was never a 1st round pick and should’ve never been a 2nd round pick. I say they address the need at QB and make a deal to move up in the draft and get a franchise QB. I’m tired of the QB band aids they have been placing in that position. It may take a few years to develop him but look at Green Bay and Detroit…it’s not hard to see them because we are at the bottom right now! GB is going to be tough for many years to come I’m afraid because they have a solid QB!

That is my point Dartman, there isn’t a QB in this draft that looks like a franchise QB. I think Cam Newton is an athlete but will buckle under pressure, the rest of the draftee’s look like solid backups not franchise QB’s. Unless the Vikqueens recognize that the next 4 yrs or more are a re-building years then yes take a QB, I hope I am wrong about this year QB class, but I don’t like this years class. Trade the 12th and third round for Kolb?

Because of the current work stoppage in the NFL, only picks can be traded, not actual players.

How about the Vikings tank the season. Get the #1 overall next year. Draft Luck from Standford. That way if BK’s stadium bill fails and they move to L.A they have a built in star!

I’m pretty sure they will be taking a QB at 12. The best available. I heard Frasier talk yesterday and I really think that’s what they’re going to do. THEN, we’re going to trade for C Palmer or Kolb and build the rookie under them. I can live with that. But if they jam this kid in there now and use this as rebuilding time I have real issues with that.

Don’t waste a #12 pick on this years crop of QB’s. Trade down & maybe we can pull in a rare sleeper QB over looked by the masses – like Brady(199th overall in 2000)or Farve, Brees, Cunningham & Boomer – all picked in 2nd round with 30th+ picks. Heck, Montana was 84th over all in 1979.

Don’t start threads if you don’t want answers. Try telling us about a fishing trip you took or something cool about your boat instead of posting all of your lame political posts and sports posts. You might just get an answer you like! Just a thought…

Impossible to say how the draft will go for any team in the league. With all the variables and trying to predict how a bunch of young kids will pan out in the NFL is a crap-shoot or pure luck at best.

Fun to be an armed chair GM and blame peolple after the draft tho for sure…

That’s the Modus Operandi of Packer fans in general. They could win 10 Super Bowls in row and the vast majority will be poor sports and angry about life in general until the end…

    Screw you BL…..

I know I don’t have a crystal ball, but I too don’t think there is a true starter to be drafted this year. That doesn’t mean some of them won’t start some games. I just don’t think they will be effect in the short or long term. Trade down and get some quality role players with good character.

This year is not a good draft class in general. I think the best bet is to get a good linemen offense or defense. Then when all this mess with the lockout is fixed trade for a good QB not a has been!
