Bad road noise!

I have a 2008 Ford Taurus and the road noise is absolutely horrible. I also have a 2003 Chevy Impala and a 2004 Chevy 2500HD and the noise is MUCH MUCH less in both of these vehicles. My question…. are the Taurus that much noisier than other vehicles? I will be needing new tires on the Taurus by fall and I am hoping to find a good set of Quiet tires that are also good in the winter. I just can’t believe this car can be so loud compared to any other cars we have owned. Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

The quiet version of the Taurus is the Mercury… I noticed the difference on our Taurus (2007) and also the Escape vs the Mariner. Less noise insulation…
Put a set of Michelins on your Taurus…

Jim, my tires still have about 1/3 to 1/2 tread. They have been rotated every 7K miles. The road noise is so bad that my Motorola Blue tooth has to be turned up to high volume when on older asphalt roads.

    Thanks!

I have a Mercury Milan and had a lot of road noise due to a bad rear wheel bearing and Goodyear tires. Fixed the bearing and went to Michelin Pilot series tires and am VERY happy. Road noise drives me crazy because I drive 60k per year.

Thanks Cris, I also drive 45-60k per year just for business. I purchased this Taurus in Dec with 80K miles on it and it has been very very load from day one. I am curious if this is a Taurus thing!

Some vehicles are just louder…. see if you can get some Soundguard or some type of undercoating(Ziebart)… also you can drop alot of money on Michelins , or get a set of Hankook Optimo H727’s, half the price, better treadwear warranty and just as quiet IMHO.
