Fish kill on Lake Sugema. My buddy just got back from Sugema and here is what he heard.
We talked to a game warden based there and he told us that the chemical that was put in the water to control shad killed thousands of small walleye and thousands of small crappie and hundreds of larger walleye. The fishery people at Lake Rathbun apparently control the fishery at Sugema and they were the ones that put in the chemical. As you can imagine, the locals are pretty upset.
    So what is latest new???

From reading your post, I assume your buddy has the latest news since he just got back from there.
The chemical was put in late last fall in small amounts so as to avoid any game fish kills. Whether or not it worked as intended, I don’t know. But I never heard of any large numbers of dead game fish.
If there was, I’m sure it would have been all over the net.
I ice fished it this winter and never noticed anything out of the ordinary. Haven’t been down there yet this spring.
But like I said, if there was a big die off, you couldn’t help but read it on the net.

Ask this question to the boys at My Outdoors Iowa. There are several that fish that lake.
