My mother gave us part of her rhubarb plant when we moved into our house close to 20 years ago.

I cultivated, fertilized (not with walleyes), debugged and gave it all the tender loving care I could. It flourished.

The FW doesn’t like rhubarb >PERIOD< and wants me to dig it up! End of Story.

Now isn’t having a rhubarb plant in your back yard American? Like having an American Flag? At least Minnesotan right along with hot dish, lutifisk and and Cheese Curds??

Ido is my last thread of hope is showing that we are Proud To Be American!!

I plead with you to convince the FW that the only thing worse than pulling out that plant would be to support a taxpayer paid for Vikes Stadium!

I cut my ancient plant in half last year and gave it to a friend of my dad’s. I swear it has grown back bigger than ever. BK, you NEED this plant.

I’d pick a shovel of appropriate hand size for the FW and hand it to her with your blessing. Rhubarb has a tap root a yard long and it will be back next year….with a vengence.

Rhubarb is a blessing from the God’s, everybody knows that. To kill Rhubarb in Minnesota would be the same as killing a cow in India. Does the FW want THAT on her mind morning, noon & night?

BK, you really know how to pick your battles!

BTW, she could always make us a nice Rhubarb cake or maybe Rhubard / Strawberry sauce.

Well if you grow it and harvest it, I can maybe talk my neighbor into making the pies from it. I must say it could benefit us all.

I hate rhubarb. The FW does not. She wants to put a plant in, but I refuse.

I say let her try to get rid of it. It’s tough to do! And if she’s successful, you can always get rhubarb from just about anyone else in MN

Exactly….She doesn’t need to like it. Tell her it would make her feel good if she made us some rhubard goodies!

I also planted a rhubarb plant in my back yard 8 years ago only because it is the American thing to do… red, white and blue. I have never harvested anything from it.

We have a patch on the farm that my great grandparents put in about 95 years ago. Havn’t touched it in years and it doesn’t bother anyone.

My motto for rhurarb: Since the leaves can kill a pig it will surely kill me. So I stay way away from it.

Would you rather have a Rhubarb plant, or grass that needs to be mowed???

I vote for an entire lawn of rhubarb

Are you talking about rhubarb or the look-a-like burdock?

I’d do the entire lawn thing. Mowing is a horrible waste of life.

If no one cooks it, it’s pretty worthless though. We’ve got two big ones and two small ones that don’t produce much. They’ve been a lot more useful than the goosebery bush. That thing is finally going this year.

My Parents gave me 4-pieces of Rhubarbs roots 12 years ago.
Stuck them in the ground and never fertilize or take care of them other than to puck bucket fulls.

PS: A cousin tried to move his patch. The next year he had 2-patches. He tried numerous weed killers and still coming back 3-years later.

    Best to leave it be.

Good luck with that one Brian. I would have to make sure to keep mine. Too many found memories associated with Rhubarb, not to mention that I like it also.
