Am I alone?

Does anybody else not click onto links without an explanation first? Example, sometimes a question is asked and when you click the thread the only thing there is a link. No explanation of what the link is about.

Call me old fashion, call me skeptical, call me overly concerned about virus’s. I won’t open a link I don’t know about. In fact, even if I do know the content I won’t open the link.

Seems to me most times a cut and paste puts the information right there in the thread without the need to have a link.

Anybody else have these concerns or am I alone?

I am pretty sure the few times I have posted with a link, there was an explanation to go along with it. When I have been the one looking at the link, I always look at the bottom of my browser to see where the link leads. If it said click here and when I hovered my mouse over the link and below it said virusesgalore . com or something unsavory I would back away slowly. If it just said cabelas . com I would probably click it.

I do the same thing with emails, links in emails show the real address at bottom of screan, those emails from “ebay” that I get that do not go to ebay get deleted asap for example. I hope that I am not dropping my drawers just by previewing them this way.

    I’m somewhat leery too.

Here is what I do on any link posted here through our URL upload. You can right-click on the link and a pop up box will appear. Select “Properties”. Another pop up will display with the address of the link. So you can decide from there. If its an address you don’t care to look at, close it and move on. Many times its just another IDO address to a related post.

I don’t run anti virus and I back everything up daily. If I get one I will just reload an image and right back to square one. Click Away

Personally, if it’s just a link I’ll wait until someone else posts about it. If it dies…I’ll never see it.

I like content on Ido and not going someplace else unless it’s a youtube video.

I run Norton Premier and so far it has covered my back. If popup blocker doesn’t allow a link to open I close it without looking back. Viruses suck

I still however will sometimes decide to move on not opening a link without an explanation unless the title grabs my interest or as Brian said, the replies.

And always remember…..when viewing a video or opening a link….if you didn’t care for the contents it is time in your life you will never be able to recover

I too watch the status bar to see where the link says it is going to take me, very skeptical on some links. I run TrendMicro Anti-Virus.

Another thing for preventing SPAM/Viruses and Trojan horse crap is when sending emails to numerous friends I send all the names/addresses in the BCC (Blind Carbon Copy) box so my friends address are not all out there for every spammer to see. Seems like when I get emails from some people and there is a long list of their friends addresses that a day or two & up to a week later I’ll get a few to dozens of spam emails, just delete, delete.

Exactly….that is a very good tip
Also delete any address that might be showing in the forwarding e-mail.

    eh, i click away…

even if it is a bad link, maybe i can use it for future use against others…

and besides, i’m running a vmware virtual desktop for all of my internet browsing, so if i get a virus, i can be back to square 1 within like 10 minutes.

Email’s that do that are deleted quick for me, if I don’t know the address I delete.

Threads on forums that have links I’m more open to but I usually look at the poster. If it is someone I believe can be trusted I click away if a guy does it with 5 post then I skip.

I have no problem clicking away. I have virus protection and browsers now, at least Firefox, is good about black listing some malicious sites and will warn you before loading the page and give you the option to leave before loading.

I don’t think it is possible to nail someone with a virus from a link to a real webpage. I think the biggest threat is a virus hidden in Java code (not to be confused with Javascript). If you want to learn more, click here
