A very interesting column.. COMPLETELY NEUTRAL

Be sure to Read the Poem at the end.

Charley Reese’s final column for the Orlando Sentinel…
He has been a journalist for 49 years.
He is retiring and this is HIS LAST COLUMN.

Be sure to read the Tax List at the end.

This is about as clear and easy to understand as it can be. The article
below is completely neutral, neither anti-republican or democrat.
Charlie Reese, a retired reporter for the Orlando Sentinel, has hit the
nail directly on the head, defining clearly who it is that in the final
analysis must assume responsibility for the judgments made that impact
each one of us every day. It’s a short but good read. Worth the time.
    Worth remembering!

    545 vs. 300,000,000 People

    -By Charlie Reese

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and
    then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are
against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and
high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don’t propose a federal budget. The President does.

You and I don’t have the Constitutional authority to vote on
appropriations. The House of Representatives does.

You and I don’t write the tax code, Congress does.

You and I don’t set fiscal policy, Congress does.

You and I don’t control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one President, and nine Supreme
Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are
directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the
domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem
was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its
Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally
    chartered, but private, central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason.
They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator,
    a congressman, or a President to do one cotton-picking thing. I don’t
care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The
politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the
lobbyist promises, it is the legislator’s responsibility to determine
    how he votes.

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that
what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con
    regardless of party.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive
amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker,
who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits. The
President can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to
    accept it.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole
responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and
approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House?
John Boehner. He is the leader of the majority party. He and fellow
House members, not the President, can approve any budget they want. If
the President vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree
    to.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million cannot replace
545 people who stand convicted — by present facts — of incompetence
and irresponsibility. I can’t think of a single domestic problem that is
not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the
plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal
government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to
    exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it’s because they want it unfair.

If the budget is in the red, it’s because they want it in the red.

If the Army & Marines are in Iraq and Afghanistan it’s because they want
them in Iraq and Afghanistan …

If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement
plan not available to the people, it’s because they want it that way.

There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they
hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and
advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to
regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let
them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical
forces like “the economy,” “inflation,” or “politics” that prevent them
from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.

They, and they alone, have the power.

They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are
    their bosses.

Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees…

We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

Charlie Reese is a former columnist of the Orlando Sentinel Newspaper.

What you do with this article now that you have read it… is up to you.

This might be funny if it weren’t so true.
Be sure to read all the way to the end:

    Tax his land,
    Tax his bed,
    Tax the table,
    At which he’s fed.

    Tax his tractor,
    Tax his mule,

I can not see how he can solely blame just 545 people, those who vote them in and their predecessors must have their fare share of blame. Very narrow minded view to make a point.
I get the point the system is corrupt and is weighted down to favor the incumbent. Until the public can cast an educated vote with out relying on fear and rhetoric to sway their decision it will stay the same. Were stuck with it until the sheep that fallow the swing of the pendulum can think for themselves.

These alledged facts are in error. Never in this country’s existance has there been no National Debt. http://www.treasurydirect.gov/govt/reports/pd/histdebt/histdebt_histo1.htm We had no middle class until the union movement wrested good pay and benifits from the industrial nabobs. http://visualizingeconomics.com/2008/05/04/average-income-in-the-united-states-1913-2006/ Our productivity was a combination of an educated workforce, abundant natural resorces, and good old american ingenuity.

Those of us still in the middle class are suffering under this extrordinary list of taxes. Those who are not suffering from over taxation are the ones who would convice us that they shouldn’t be taxed. While we stuggle with this economy, the rich are are getting richer. http://seekingalpha.com/article/189649-wealth-disparities-in-u-s-approaching-1920s-levels

Or until our constitutional republic becomes more like a banana republic. With our 14 trillion in federal debt, we are not far away, as people seem to want less debt, as long as it does not come at the expense of the money THEY get from the government. ( ex. funding, benefits, subsidies)

Let’s be frank, everything needs to be cut. If congress or the president is un-willing to lead then vote them all out until we find someone that will. Everything needs to be cut including the program’s you like. That is the way it is and it is not pretty.

The only question is whether we are up to the task….

Not to mention the damn women joining the workforce taking away jobs from men and driving wages down!

First things first. You need to stop deficit spending. We will always have debt, but each deficit adds to the principle.

    Nope. There are no consequences.

First step in my opinion is term limits and in order to get it done, make them grand fathered in so you can get the people in there now to vote for it.

We elect rich people to run our government and now rich people pay less in taxes than they ever have before.

I agree, a good start is to get rid of everyone in the current administration, they are part of the problem, not part of the solution…

I know I took this quote out of text, but while I am still in the Middle class, (I think), I am wondering ‘what’ money or program I am in that I get from the government?

I think the man makes his point. I am not sure he isn’t right and saying those 545 aren’t the first to be held accountable. No doubt there are more. If all the ‘aide’ we send to foreign countries where spent here in the USofA, would we really be a LOT better off? (Or does that money keep everyone from wanting to come over here and try to kick our a$$es?)
There are a lot of wrongs that need to be righted! Are the people of this Nation willing to vote smart enough to get it done?

A good question you have. Here is some food for thought.

In 2010, households received $2.3 trillion in income support from unemployment benefits, Social Security, disability insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, veterans’ benefits, education assistance and other cash transfers of government funds to individuals.

An estimated 59% of the 308.7 million Americans in this country get at least one federal benefit.

Government cash handouts account for a whopping 79% of household growth since 2007.

In a free market, profit is generated by hard work and enterprise. Because of the labor of the worker, companies generally have the ability to prosper and make more money, both for their employees and their owners,” which in turn creates tax revenues.

So if government is now responsible for growth of wealth in many households, one would think those same people would be more inclined to re-elect the same people that give them money, not take it away.

Can our country continue afford to carry the burden of government-sponsored wealth creation?

Cannot even remember the last time I voted for someone in either of the two major parties. I vote every election and being in the incumbant spot is a sure way to not get a check mark next to your name. Has not done any good…. yet. Maybe next election cycle will see more votes for 3rd party canidates.

Interesting article. Blaming it on 545 people at a federal level is pretty short sited. He ignores all those at a state and local level that can’t keep their hands out of your wallets (property tax, sales tax, state income tax).

Yes, like many government program’s its original intentions might have been good, but is sure seems to have taken on the characteristics of a good ponzi scheme ( good if you are in at the beginning, not so good trying to draw out down the road)

We threw Madoff in jail, maybe we should do the same for those elected officials who raided the fund over the years and put IOU’s back in with an accounting scheme that only Arthur Anderson would approve of…

Plenty of blame to go around on that one.

Actually, the Congressional Budget Office only advises congress, congress is not required to act on their findings or estimate of costs for a given government program…

I know, I was implying that the numbers they supplied to congress did not take into account these things.
