Just curious, with the influx of big head carp and such, what do you do when you catch one of these???

I see on TV they just let them go again, but wouldn’t it make sense to remove them from the waters?

And why couldn’t you just kill one and dump it overboard, I’d think the rest of the aquatic life would probably eat it..??

Taking it home and disposing usually means dumping it in a thrash container and then the trash people get to dispose of it.

    What’s the answer?

It might be tough for you, living in the Metro and all, but a friend who raises a few pigs will take some rough fish once in a while. Actually I think its illegal to kill and put back in the water, so maybe have a plan set before you get yourself posed with the problem. If its just one, take it home, wrap it in newspaper, freeze it and put it in the trsh when you take the container to the curb.

Must be reported and given to the MN DNR by law.

When it comes to something like this I would run it through with a knife and let it swim away. Even though it wont make a dent in the population I’m not releasing such a thing and I’m sure not hauling it around…

WI seems to have the same law.

I would bet they would come and meet with a person that claims to have one in their possession.

I wonder if I could fit a 40 pound frozen big head Carp in my freezer? I already know what the FW would think of the idea.

Brian is right, The decaying fish increases the BOD (biological oxygen demand) in the water and reduces oxygen available for fish. However the turtles would love it. With that being said, I think I would play some carp baseball anyway. But if a breeding population establishes, I will be putting my trailer on a different body of water.

I would think if you killed it then put it up on the bank the eagles would surely take care of it, lots of young eagles that need fed !

Especially if someone was to call and say Suzuki has one in his freezer.

From what I’ve heard from some of the guys snagging the big head carp below the Keokuk dam, they are very good eating. I was told they clean them just as you would a northern pike and they have a white flesh. Some of you may want to record this info for future reference.
