Has anyone driven this truck yet? I am thinking about getting rid of my duramax, I need a 6′ box and also a crew cab, so that only leaves me with the F150 in the half ton. Just looking for thoughts or reviews on this truck.

    thanks

Last month I bought a brand new F-150 FX4 with the 6 1/2 foot bed. I purchased the 5L V8 instead of the ecoboost. I did drive the ecoboost a couple of times while I was trying to make up my mind. It is a great power source but sounds a bit different than the V8. I dind’t buy the ecoboost for only one reason…it is first year release on a workhorse vehicle and I was a bit concerned about what the replacement cost of twin turbos would be at 70K miles. The literature says the rev up to over 200K RMP. At the same time if there wasn’t a V8 option I would have been comfortable buying it because it is FORD…they can’t afford to make a mistake and put some crap on the market. It would kill their sales. I wouldn’t believe they’d release a motor like that if they didn’t have great faith in it.

My 5L V8 is getting poor gas milage. about 14.8 in the city and 17 on the highway. Last weekend pulling my 1900ProV up to Rainy and back I got 12.6mpg average-not bad. (I just got rid of my Dodge with cummins deisel – 20mpg)

On another note. If you want the super crew cab with the longer box (6.5 feet) you may have to order one as I did because most of the trucks on the lots are 5.5 foot boxes. Similarly, I wanted a black one with the 6.5 box and a 36 gallong tank. I had to order it. I love it an wish I would have had the money to buy one sooner.

I am pretty sure you would be happier with the V8. The eco puts out some good numbers but thats cause of the turbos. I would rather have raw hp. Coming from a d-max you might not like either haha.

The other option is the Ram 1500 quad cab. Still got 4 doors and unless you got big guys sitting behind you all the time there is plenty of room. Oh and did I mention is has a hemi Last weekend on the trip up to grand rapids I averaged 20.2mpg going 60mph and 18.6@ 70-72mph

Thanks orange….I went to a lot yesterday and they had 4 crewcabs all with 157″ wheel base, 1 eco boost, and the rest were standard V8 engines. That MPG doesn’t sound too good.

I tried to test drive one but finding one with eco-boost was downright difficult. Most dealers told me they are two months out on orders place and if you find one you like to buy it because it’ll be gone in a day.

The numbers on horsepower and torque sound impressive when you need it, with better than average fuel economy. One thing I really liked that I haven’t seen before was Ford has a capless fuel tank which I think is a great idea. Having said that, I think I’ll wait a year and see what the consumers digest has to say once enough people buy this engine and have a chance to see how it performs on the street, not on paper.

I’ve surfed some of the motor-head type websites to see what the buzz is on this eco-boost motor and most guys believe if it does what it says it can that Ford would probably eliminate the V8 engine lineup all together because you wouldn’t have any reason to buy one. The ecoboost gives great towing capability at a fraction of the price of a diesel engine…only a $750 upcharge over the standard motor, compared to a $6-7k upcharge for a diesel motor.

Time will tell, but Ford has grabbed my attention and I plan to keep my ears open to how this new motor performs.

I bought a crew cab long box (6.5 feet) 2 weeks ago ( I did have to order it) I have 1000 miles on it already and have an avg. 18.7 mpg so far. I did order it with the 3.55 gear ratio in the rear end. I have not towed yet but have a 620T waiting to go.
I do like the truck, it does have the turbo lag but when they kick in you feel it.
I did buy the extended warrenty just in case.
One really cool thing is the rear camera where you can zoom into you trailer hitch when backing up to your boat.

The other thing to think about is chipping the motor at a later date. My Subaru got more power and better gas mileage (2 mpg). Turbo’s can make more power and better efficiency with tuning. Wouldn’t have believed it if I didn’t see it for my own eyes.

When I’m ready It’ll be on my short list to check this truck out. In 2 years or so any bugs should be worked out.

Ford is a stickler on modifying the engine, they can figure out if you tweak and return to stock. they have made the owners pay for repairs with proof of modifying the engine with chips etc.

Cool, I’ll stop and look. They didn’t have any two weeks ago when I stopped in. The dealer looked in his magic computer and the only one he could find was off Silver Lake Road…maybe he was just pulling my leg.

I wonder what Hastings Ford would give me for my 98 f-150 with 286,000 miles on it.

I’ve been in there drooling over the new trucks a few times..

My ’99 had over 220,000 with no major issues or even a tuneup.

I traded it in last year for $3500 and picked a ’10 super cab. This has the 5.4 still and avg 15 mpg city and can get up to about 19.5 driving at 65 mph.

I’ve been looking at the EcoBoost trucks for a few months now and have been very impressed with the 365 HP 420 LB-FT of torgue and estimaed 22 mpg. Finally after several test drives I decided to pull the trigger today and ordered an FX4 SuperCrew with the FX Luxury Package. Lots of info on the Ford website: http://www.ford.com/trucks/f150/

Does anyone know if this engine will be available in the 2012 Expeditions?
