What’s wrong with poaching? I don’t think anyone should tell another person how to cook his fish. Bake’em, grill’em, poach’em – what business is it of mine?

To bad they can’t charge restitution for the 1.32 million potential fry that were destroyed as well. That would send a message.

    Nail them good!!!

I just have to say this though, you frequently read or hear the stories about catching poachers red handed. It just seems to me that this could have been stopped alot sooner than waiting untill the poachers had 11 large walleyes.
Why not bust them right away instead of letting them continue?

    just saying

Pug, you’ve completely missed the point. All of those potential walleye fry and eggs could have gone to feed thousands of starving flatheads…

Not suprising. I’ve witnessed something similar on the Rainy River as well.

The COs waited and let them pile up the walleye so they could really nail them. There is little chance they can lie their way out of this or get off on a technicality where if they had one live walleye, some jury/judge somewhere would find reasonable doubt and let them off of reduce the sentence.

Thanks for the replies… i think he waited for 11 walleyes to get the fines up… multiplied. my guess guys have been doing this for years… We are actually next spring gonna set up a walleye patrol to catch poachers… this story really pissed off alot here in centyral NY… one guy is a repeat offender with pics on the net. another is a tourney director for a charity tourney…
Last thing… this was on the hudson river… tidal… never even heard of walleye down there… flatheads no… Stripers spawning from the ocean yes!

i have no problem with these people getting the book thrown at them. but, the law could have caught them, and instead, let them continue on to “Up the Ante”?

    that is BS!

if a trooper clocks you at 65 in a 55, yet thinks you’ll go faster, so he just trails behind a while and lets you accelerate up to a higher speed, and then pulls you over, to be able to give you a larger ticket…

wouldn’t that almost be a form of entrapment?

Nope. Unless the COs went up and encouraged them to catch more or asked them to catch one for them.

Sorry freeman… catskill creek is a small trib of the hudson river. walleyes ultimatly started there. hudson runs from Albany ny to the NYC with fresh water down to almost west point. Striper and shad run every spring. tidal. water goes up and down back and forth.
Catskill creek is a major wiintering area for just about every fish in the river.

I’m actually taking some flack here in NY over this by posting it. seems one guy is a little league coach and works with charities. I say somebody better look at that charity and little league money.
my posts and links have been removed here in NY…
anybody snagging 11# walleyes outa season and those who support them can bite me.
