I have been working the lake the last few weeks pretty hard for Northerns. Pre-fishing for the tourney was great fishing but day before tourney of course weather changed and being number 94 out of a 100 out of the hole was not helping the situation. We worked areas we pre-fished with no results starting in 15 f.o.w. and going as deep as 25 f.o.w. then switched up a bit and worked the shallows with some buzz baits. Nothing! Talked to a few others and they were having the same luck. Last hour of the tourney we finally got two in the boat and of coarse pushing the time right down to the wire 1/4 to end of tourney were still up the river accross the lake away trying for the third which never came. Still placed in the top 30 and have continued my pursuit of northerns the last couple weeks now after the tourney. The bite is on and you just keep saying if this would have bit on tourney day.
The bite seems to be good in the 15 to 18 f.o.w. range trolling a wide variety of colors and sizes of rapalas. Deep diving shallow divers 50 feet out or 100 feet out fish are still hiting. The last week now the water temp has actually gone from 70.4 to 65.7 degrees.. The bite seems to be in the later part of the day with mornings producing nothing.
Hope this helps out anyone looking to fish the lakes here soon…
