I’ll be fishing Lake Waconia in the latter part of June for a paper tournament. I’ve never been to the lake so I hope to get up a few times before hand. Anyone have any information on this lake for bass? Thanks.

You might want to let whoever is running your tournament that a paper tourny is not necessary on Waconia as the slot they have is no longer in effect. Waconia is a great body of water. There will be nice limits caught many ways. Docks will give up a few fish but most will be caught by people working the milfoil or deep rocks. Jigs and texas rigs or cranks should work depending on the activity level of the fish. Let us know how it goes!! Good luck.

Thanks for the note Mike. So it’s a 12″ limit like everywhere else then?

Mn doesn’t have a minimum size statewide for bass. The 12″ minimum is what most tournies set as a minimum.

Guess I need to read the rules a little better.

I sent the note to members of our club and they didn’t know the slot was dropped either. Do you know why they dropped it? We are thinking of keeping it a paper tournament to keep from having to mess with the crowded boat launch area at weigh in and less stress on the fish.

    Thanks for the help.

The slot that was in effect was an expermental reg that was set to exp in March and they didn’t redo it.

I called the DNR, about dropping the special reg on Bass, they said they had a public meeting and that no one showed up with any agruments to extend it. they compared surveys with another west metro lake and fish size and populations and said they were similiar. never saw any meeting dates anywhere. hope the public will continue to care for this fishery. CPR now is necessary and no special reg to protect them. Jack.
