I fished Clearwater Lake for the first time on saturday. This lake has some really steep breaklines and some nice fish. We trolled cranks and bottom bouncers with spinners/crawlers for action. We caught some small to good sized pike on cranks. We caught 8 walleyes 13-19 inches long on both cranks and spinner rigs. Throw in some largemouthbass, sunfish, and rock bass and we had enough action to keep us busy. I was suprised by the lack of boat traffic. There was little angling activity in the morning, but it did pick up in the late morning. In the afternoon there was a few more pleasure boats, but I wouldn’t consider the lake crowded. It seems like a tough lake to pattern, but once you do the results can be good.

It is a very active lake and as far as traffic on it you were there on a good day then cause usually it is pretty heavy. As far as other anglers on the lake well due to the lakes overwhelming amount of structure you can usually find any type of bite throughout the day no matter what time you go out. For walleye morning to just before noon is good and early evening. For Bass heck you can catch a boat full throughout the day no matter what time. But the taste of the fish over the years from the lake have kinda went to a very weedy taste. I only fish it for catch and release now a days and am trying another lake here in my area which has been quit a challenge for me since for years I was the one out there skiing and pleasure riding but now have grown out or to old for that stuff and am now focused on the angling side of pleasure on the lakes. This lake I am “TRYING” to fish is suppose to have 2 pound crappies yet I have not found one yet… I am going to have to study this type fish a bit to learn how and where to find them. I found Walleye, not much in size yet but getting close and Northern just caught a 6 pounder the other day and again Bass and those little bandits A.K.A Sunfish and BlueGills. But Clearwater is a good fun lake especially if you have kids and you want hem to get out and catch some decent fish and fast. But becareful the lake is dangerous alot of shallow spots it is best to talk to someone about the lake that knows the lake before just going out and jumping in your rig and running accross it.

Thanks for the report. Later in the fall was always a great time to get on the eye bite. BJ’s usually has a fall pike tourny as well in Sept.
