Ive been driving an hour or so away the last few days to go ice fishing, and would like to try Cedar since its incredibly closer but never have fished there. How is it through the ice? Should I set up on shallow structure or out in the deeps? I know there are cribs in the lake but have no clue where they are. I currently fish sonarless so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can tell you that i’ve caught big walleyes out of there but in the summer. Never ice fished it. That lake sure brings back some good memories. It’s on the list for summer of 11.

Its ok mark, I know theres eyes, pannies, big skis, and some white bass. Theres a point with a few underwater humps going up from 15′ to 5′ along side a 20′ dropoff which is prolly where Ill end up starting. Its mostly 20ish feet deep in the center with a max out in a hole of 28′.

Lots of cribs in cedar. There will be a small city on every group of cribs. I’ve never had a ton of luck out there(what a shock). Let us know how you do.

Cedar is good for crappies, gills, perch and eye’s. Look for the cribs and you shouldnt have any problems catching fish. Cribs are all over the lake but are easily found along the shore lines in 16-20 FOW. One of my favorite lakes to ice fish, I’ve never touched it in the summer

no camera or sonar here, yet, so to find the cribs look for the shack clusters on them? Not a problem thanks

Never fished it either, but really took in some awesome racing action at the 3/8 mile dirt track not to far away. Some of the best racing in the midwest when the big events roll In.

I may have sounded a little harsh. I just hate it when that happens. Seen it so many times in my life.

The two weekends I fished hardly anybody on the lake except a few guys hucking musky baits. That was back in 2005 though. Did the walleye slot bring more anglers to the lake or something?

I think it’s pressured alot harder in the winter. Greens up in the summer and that scares some people away.

any idea of where I should look now that all houses are off the lake, or would I be better off fishing the 2nd tier of lower pine lake?

its really quite comical how fast any form of help when youre a complete stranger to a body of water goes out of the window the second anyone mentions a “spot”

Apparently you haven’t put out a lot of comfortable waves gaining trust in the world of IDO… And making a statement like the last one will not gain any more trust either…

I haven’t posted since the early part of this thread as I don’t know a lot about this lake. As long as the shacks are gone, why not fish where they were??? Then you can see if there was a reason they were there and decide whether you want to fish them or not.

Looking at the list of late posters, you were getting good helpers from what I know…

Good thing someone told me how to find a map that gives you the total crib numbers, sites, cribs at each location, and their gps location time to enjoy the last days of the eye and pike season.
