Since the weather has gotten decent, I was planning on a trip up to the Amery area. If anyone has heard of or having somewhat of a decent bite anywhere, please let me know.

Obviously, I haven’t heard of anything, but I”m sure that if the spring-like weather keeps on a coming, the fishing should pick up.

Thanks guys, and pray for spring!!

If your looking for action, try Bone. I was up there a week ago and it was non-stop action for perch. They aren’t those nice big jumbos, but if you want a few for the pan you can weed through them for some keepers. The overall action was phenomal however! Sounds like the same scenario according to tipupsonly report for the Apple River. Great action with some keepers mixed in. I know last year starting about this time they did real well on the crappies on Upper Turtle as well.

    riverruns,
I really know very little about the lakes in the Chetek area. Have only fished up there a couple times myself and that was during open water. As far as Bone goes, it depends what you guys are looking. If you are looking for big panfish, I really haven’t found any mongo perch on Bone. What I have found is fantastic action the times I have been up there. We have also found that if we sort through enough of the smaller ones, we have gotten some for the fry pan. The last time I was up there the action was literally non-stop and again we went through enough fish that we did get some keepers. A week and a half ago there was still lots of ice! Lots of snow on the ice as well. Not a lot of plowed roads, we used a snowmobile and ATV to get around. Not sure what all this warm weather and rain has done for the slush & driving conditions up there. You might want to talk to Gen @ Gen’s Bait Shop in Amery. She usually has the skinny on the lakes and driving conditions in that area, including Bone. Her number is 1-888-USE-BAIT. I myself am gonna try to get away and try Upper or Lower Turtle in the next couple weeks. You may also want to try & contact joeyno5 who visits this site often. I know he fishes the Rice Lake area, but may have some info for the Chetek area as well. Good luck & let me know if I can be of anymore help.

It seems like anywhere by the islands off the Wilkin’s landing on Bone Lake holds fish. I have heard that the crappie bite died off up there just recently….but maybe it will pick back up by this weekend with the warm temps. No matter how bad the fishing is though, you can always catch some perch out there. The trick is finding the big ones.

We’ve been fishing deeper water up there. 25′ to 32′. From what I here they are getting some perch shallower also 12′ to 20′. We have had our best luck with jigging spoons & minnow heads. Don’t know about the tip-ups or a walleye bit anywhere. Our best action came around the big island on the south half of the lake. If you guys get to playing cards, I suggest Texas Hold ’em. Fun game!

I headed up to the Big and Little Blakes on Friday. Nice day to be out fishing. Too bad there was over a foot of snow on the ice, which made for a colorie-burning trek across the lakes. Also, when I drilled holes, water came running up out of holes from all of the pressure. There was plenty of ice, probably two feet. Located fish in 10-12 feet of water. Caught quite a few bluegills, with most of them being between 5 and 6 inches. Caught a total of 9 fish that were larger than 7 inches. All in all, It was a pretty decent day to be fishing. Just wish the larger fish would have been a bit more cooperative.
