Headed to the apple river all day on saterday. Great weather to be sitting out on the ice, too bad the fish werent cooperating very well. Fished out by the stumps with shinners and smelt on tip-ups…..not one flag! Did see a few people chase some flags, but didnt see a single fish brought up. Around 3 o’clock the sunfish really turned on as usual. Unfortantly they were small with the largest ones around 8 inches. Caught prolly 150 in less than two hours and kept some of the bigger ones for the frying pan.
Then on Sunday after noon around three i headed out to lake george looking for some crappies. Drilled about a dozen holes and went hole to hole wiht the vexilar. Spotted fish, but they were few and far between, and when i found a few they bit so lightly that half the time i couldnt tell i had a bight. Iced prolly a dozen crappies and missed/lost several more, mostly on waxies. Unfortantly not one did i consider a keeper….not even by my ice fishing standards. They ranged from 7-9 inches long.
The panfishing should starting picking up again with the warm temps…..least i hope so
