Hey guys,
Thought I’d send a quick report from Birch Lake, the wife and I just returned last night.
The lake is very green from a heavy algae bloom, however the gills are there and biting. I found them in the coontail and cabbage weedbeds in 8-13 FOW using a chartruese Custom Jigs rocker with a small splitshot about 6″ above it, a waxie or two seemed to do the trick. Had to pick thru the dinks but the bigger ones are there deeper in the weeds. Picked up and released a big largemouth yet full of spawn? Late? Quite a tussle on ultralite gear!
I found the crappies suspended at 8-14′ in 30 foot of water mainly on the north end of the lake. A small jig tipped with a minnow did the trick, either cast out and let fall slowly or vertical jig next to the boat.
Hope this helps someone heading up.
Good luck,
Donnie
