So, I’m moving to Antigo. Going to have about a week batching it while the wife and kids are visiting relatives. Won’t have the boat available, so was hoping for some tips to do a little fishing/exploring in the area the week of the 25th of July. Nothing fancy, just need to get out and catch a fish! Any decent shore fishing or maybe river/stream access close by that a guy could spend some time on? What’s out there to catch from shore?

    Thanks all!

River fishing on the Wisconsin would be what I would concentrate on. I would check with the local bait shops and bring some waders along. My Uncle did very well on the backwaters for big gils in Wausau using hip boots and a cane pole but he is no longer with us. Also I would fish the kettle lakes in the Harrison Hills if you have some time to travel up that way. Good Luck!

So where are the kettle lakes in the Harrison hills? I’ll have at least a little time…

Any decent smallie action going on in the area?

    Thanks again all IDO’ers!

You could probably rent a canoe anywhere along the Wisconsin and make out like a bandit.

My Dad and Uncle took me there as a kid, we would drive up to these small lakes and walk down to the lake and fish from shore, mostly they would fish for pan’s but I like casting for bass and at times did very well. Unfortunatly they are both gone now so I cant tap that recource to give you the names of the lakes. If you buy a Wisconsin Atlas the Harrison Hills are to the west of Hwy.17 about an hour drive north of Wausau. Its a very neat area with a pile of little kettle lakes to explore. Wish I could be more helpfull on specific lakes but it sure brings back some warm memories!

Smallies on the river from Wausau (Brokaw) to Pride Dam south of Tomahawk. Grandma and Grandpa dams just north of Merrill. And they might just be big!!!

The other thing is you might find big pans, and ‘eye or two and maybe even a musky!!!
