    Hi guys,

Anyone have any current reports on Namekagon? I have never fished this lake before but I have an opportunity to stay at Lakewoods Resort in late June for a few days. I searched a few old posts and picked our what I could from them but curious to know how the current bite is going.

Also, how is the water clarity and quality? Does this system have an algae bloom like those around the Chetek area or is this pretty good. I will be taking the family along so anything goes – the friends we are going with have not done well for walleye but have caught pike and some bass.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi. Just got back from fishing Namakagon last week. Had pretty good luck fishing walleye on weed edges but I don’t think this will be reliable in 3+ weeks. Namakagon is a brackish lake with an algae bloom that should be over by then. You missed the swarms of may flies last week.
Lakewoods has a great applewood bacon burger and a popular Sunday all-you-can-eat buffet with crab legs. Also recommended.

Lakewoods is a great stay as mentioned already… I wished I could help you more, but my stay was earlier in May and during the ice season.

Thanks guys, at least it sounds like I’ll be staying at a place with great food

I picked up a Hot Spots topo map and will do some homework before we go. I’ll only have 2-3 days to fish but hope to make an impression on the lake.

i fished it for 3 days last fall. did well with pannies and n. pike. no walleye but didn’t fish very hard for them. using firetiger spinner baits for pike. not a ton of size but a good number of them.

Check and see if the Head Chef Dave is still at the helm. He guided us for my early season trip, learned a lot from him, maybe he can drop you a few hints or you can get him in the boat for 1/2 a day.

Thanks Mark, I’ll have to see if Dave is around. I am just looking forward to getting out for a few days. I am taking the muskie and pike tackle since I have fished for and/or caught a ski in about 9 years.

Well I made it to Nam and back without issue so that is the real good news. The area was beautiful and the weather even cooperated a bit while I was there for a long weekend. The fishing was on and off like fishing usually is but mostly small pike. Had a meal at the Garmish but did not get a chance to eat at Lakewoods although I had many folks tell me the food there is great.

Over all from Sat PM – Tue AM we caught about 100 small pike (none over 26″), 2 large mouth bass and 2 walleye. The perch and bluegills were willing to bite. One in our group did raise a mid 30’s ski but could not get it to bite.

Thanks for the advice and maybe next time I’ll do a little better.

    Dave
