I have a friend of mine and his young son coming up from Orlando this Memorial Day weekend and he and I will be looking for walleyes. I’ve never been on the lake before and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction? Are the fish in the weeds or on breaks? Type of baits? Jigs and Gulp minnows? Cranks? Live bait rigs? Also where on the lake does a guy start? Any info would be greatly appreciated and would be kept quiet. Thanx!!!

I’ll start this out to keep it at the top.

I’ve fished Kabetogama next door since ’55 and it’s changed a lot. Not sure if the same changes have hit Nam or not.

We are hitting more bass in the time frame you mention now days than we used to. I suspect to get walleyes you will need to go deep, maybe 30′.

Historically, I’ve always had the best luck with just lindy meat, and maybe a spinner on cloudy days.

Where are you staying?? If you haven’t made arrangements try Idlewild Resort. They will also tell you what is working. Nice people. Kinda mad at me. I pulled out and went to URL!!

Good luck and report back. I’m curious. Maybe my bad luck was just me!!!

I’ve been fishing Kab for the last four years with better than average success. I would apply the same techniques on Nam. as Kab which is Vert. Jig. I have a friend who has been doing it for 15yrs with great success. Keep it as light as you can and keep your minnows fresh. Don’t be afraid to change up colors, up there it can really make a difference. Red/white/blue and black/gold/red. If you’re looking for eaters go 5-7 deeper than you’re catching the big ones and vise-versa. contour breaks, inside turns, points, bottom changes, it’s an all day bite if you move with the fish. Good luck!!
