Sitting on a job offer in the Antigo area–So how’s the fishing in this area? Mostly a walleye guy, some muskie, but will gladly wet a line for most anything else too.
Was wondering what new fishing opportunities I might be moving into if I accept. Any feedback would be great!
    Thanks IDO!

How does this sound , A hour drive to more than a thousand lakes and flowages! And the Wi. River where sections are open year round for walleyes.

You will be in fishing heaven reverend… Antigo has numerous lakes, rivers, and trout streams within an hours drive…covering all species. Also great upland game and deer hunting. I live less than 1.5 hrs from Antigo to the north in the U.P. of Michigan.

Probably some of the most under rated bass lakes in the country.

You are only about 4 hrs from Pool 4 also!

Wausau is a short drive south and a very progressive, growing city, with excellent healthcare and community services…Gander Mountain, Fleet Farm, sports shops…etc…

    reverend:

I live in the middle of all those lakes to the north of you by the hour and probably one of the most well known fisheries in your area is Pelican Lake just to the north of you maybe 30 minutes. Walleyes, muskies and a decent panfish lake that might even have a decent bass population, though I am not sure on that one. The Prairie River is one of the best trout stream in the entire state.

Good things among the popular and all sorts of out of the way things to explore and make your personal hotspots.

Mbenson funny you should mention Pelican Lake, a guy I work with lives on there and I live on the Prairie River. Spend my summer weekends in Minocqua. Mike

    Thanks everybody for the feedback!
Hopefully things will solidify and we’ll be finding ourselves a new home! Lot of bridges to cross between here and there…
Is it true that to live in that part of Wisconsin I have to convert to a Packers fan?? Heard it was some sort of law…

Only have to become a Packer fan if you desire, just be prepared to take some gentle ribbing!!!

Being a life-long Bears and Cubs fan exposes you to a bit more than “gentle” ribbing–we’re used to being beat on.
This sounds like the perfect area to finish raising my family–hope this offer goes all the way through.
    Thanks everybody for your input!

Well, it’s official! July 18th I’ll be a transplanted flatlander wandering around lost in northern Wisconsin trying to find a fish!
So, there’ll be work and all, but more importantly…how’s the fishing been???

I’m sorry reverend, But now that it is closer to you moving here, I have to tell you,….. You DO have to convert over to a Packers fan. Sorry to break it to you. It’s an unwritten law. Don’t worry, after this season, you will wonder why you never converted earlier. I mean….. the Bears?????? You might want to keep that skeleton in the closet. Good luck with the new job and hope the fishing proves worthy.

Finally got settled in–landed closer to Rhinelander that Antigo. bit of a drive to work, but lots closer to the fishing/hunting. Missed all the summer fishing, and most of the fall-but there’s ice coming sometime soon!
    Thanks everybody!

Hey Tom-What part of the UP are you in? I’m a long hour from Iron River, would love to pick your brain sometime.

    James,

I used to live just south of Antigo and get over there to fish several times a year. We fish Pelican, Scattering Rice, LVD Lac Vieux Desert on the UP WI border, and many others. I will try to let you know the next time I get over there. We have done real well on Crappies the last few years using Tip Downs.

I’d appreciate that! As a recent transplant, still getting to know people and drum up fishing contacts. Thanks!
