Sucker Runs Starting

I caught some suckers by Minong this weekend. Appears to be just starting (unless I really missed something )
and approx 2 weeks earlier than last year.

Can you drop some off at my house Mike? PM me and I’ll give you the garage code, tank is in the corner. Hopefully they’ll get along well with bullheads (10″er’s I may add!).

Tens?! That’s funny. I only catch the big boys. I suppose you could make cut bait out of them to feed the Channel cats?

I set a couple traps in a creek here by Rochester and i got couple hundred 4-6″ suckers. It was crazy.

You guys should see the Laske Michigan tribs this time of year. They get so thick in some areas. Tens of thousands at a time. I am not exaggerating! The Besadny fish facility on the Kewaunee River has a barrier for trout and salmon to jump up, and the suckers stack right up there, overflowing onto the shore. It’s crazy!

yeah same thing here looks like its just starting, been getting about 20-25 each time out, could get more, but just run out of bait. most are all males.

Is sucker fishing for fun or do people do it to eat them? Sorry about the lame question. Just want my all things sucker knowledge to be up to par…

I know a bunch of people that do three things with them. Smoke,em,pickle,em and make sucker patties out of them. I myself do it for fun unless a friend wants a few for eating. They are nice for getting tuned in on light bites after a long winter on the ice. And they can test your tackle pretty good in heavy current.

And the suckers are getting going good here in ashland county and it will only get better for the next few weeks.

They are going pretty good. I cant tell for sure but they didint seem to be peaking yet but I dont go often enough to be certain.
