I just drove over to Glen Loch, and you can officially launch a boat there if you please. Still a lot of shelf ice, but that will be gone soon. GL does yield some nice panfish from time to time, might be worth a look. Water is still pretty cold though. It’s a start!

if you have an open water itch that needs scratching, Dells Pond is open. Ofcourse the Chip and Eau Claire rivers are open to game fish up to the dam downtown and the dam below Altoona…

The Sippi is open year round too! I have never been brave enough to launch at the Hobbs landing and go upstream. I have fished where the Chip and EC rivers meet for walleye in the spring, and every time I am down there a boat goes by and ends up hitting a rock in the river. If I were familiar with where to go it would be great, cuz I know the Chip offers some good fishing in the spring too!
March 20, 2010 at 6:44 pm #855645Ran (okay shuffled) the Shamrock Shuffle 5K this morning and it follwed the bike path along the river and I was surprised how much the river was down. Stopped by on Tuesday and the bike trail was under water, today everything was dry behind Hobbs. Several trailers in the lot and saw boats on the river as we ran by.
I took the long way home from Menomonie on Thursday and stopped to check out the landing on “H” off Hwy 85 near Caryville. The landing looked pretty accessable and the water looked high enough to avoid navigation hazards. I think this area is open to fishing. Anyone have experience on this stretch? Is it worth taking the boat out?
Thanks,
Dave

I was a little more young and foolish at the time

I think I will stick to driving all the way to Alma this time of year.
March 21, 2010 at 9:51 pm #855919You dont need to go all the way to the dam to catch nice fish down there! You just need to be one of the first 3 boats at the launch . Going from H bridge S on the river is good when the water is up. Just dont get stuck down at Sebastian pool when the water is dropping. It will turn alot of 5′ water into 2′- in short order. A jon boat is best but I used to run a 16′ alum. V on it as long as you have good flow. Having a motor that will kick up when you hit something is best, also keeping a spare prop for those just in case moments.
