Planning on heading back home to dunn county this weekend and hitting the ice with my friend all day saturday. We were thinking of heading north, usually fish Barron/Polk county lakes. Balsam, Bone, Big Round, Wapogasset, are our usual lakes we hit. Have seen OK reports from wapo, and mixed reports from bone, big round, and big round. Looking for bluegill/crappie and maybe some tip-up action mixed in. Any info/tips would be great. Thanks.

big round has been hit or miss the last few weeks and i think Balsam has ice races and fishing contest on it this weekend if not its next weekend. I had been getting some nice crappies out there. The 11″to14″ kind

Which part of Balsam? The fish not the races.

Fished Big Lake Chetac a week ago and picked up some walleyes on the flats around the mid lake islands. Pike during the day, walleye evening into night. Been getting some very good reports on Grindstone for walleye this whole winter. I will be trying this lake soon if I can get away from my remodeling project for a day or two. A got a good report on big gils and nice pike on Spring Lake. Maybe a little out of the way for you but if you want to fish Hayward thats my report! Good luck and have fun!

Find the drop off around the stumps.

Very disappointing day of fishing, but thought I would let you guys know how we did. Got out on Balsam around noon yesterday and set up in 30 FOW by a large group of shacks on the main lake. We both caught a decent sized perch right away, and they were nasty looking fish. Wish i would of taken pictures… but they had purple and red color in there fins and were covered in little black spots (parasites?. Sat there for a while then moved to the stumps and set up tip ups and jigged. Nothing. Decided to go to wapogasset after talking to a guy on balsam who said the fish seemed to shut down in the past week and he was running around trying to find fish too. Fished a few spots on wapo and barely marked any fish. Set up in a deep hole for our last spot of the day and the screen was lit up on the lx-5 but nothing biting. I’m assuming we were marking extremely small fish or bait fish because the marks were really small and they were moving all over like crazy.
