BE CAREFUL!!!! I was out on Cedar Lake (WI) today and it was SKETCHY to say the least. 0-4″ of ice, it was spotty good ice, small spots of open water (like a 12″ circle here and there) surrounded by terrible ice, lots of slushy & soft ice and mostly bad ice. The main lake has only been froze for a week. The snow really put a hurt on good ice. You can see from shore the variations in the ice, where the bad and worse ice is. I am really glad I waited till day light to venture out the H20 trail put me rite through a small area of open water surrounded by terrible ice. I left that area and ended up fishing the bay, not exactly my favorite spot to fish but I was there so I had to crack the ice. If you plan on going out here anytime soon use extreme caution as the bad ice is rite next to ice you think is good. A spud bar is highly recommended as well as packing light. Luckily I made it home dry.

I was suprised I thought the ice was going to be better. Smaller lakes and ponds may be better.

Was planning on heading there tomorrow evening, might have to change plans. North Center in Lindstrom has 8″ in spots.

Did you land any fish? Have you heard anything regarding Wapo? I drove by the other day and nobody was out there, was thinking about checking that in the a.m.

As asked, any luck and what were you fishing for? And thanks for the warning. I thought the ice would have been better by now.

I thought the ice would have been better as well however that snow just wrecked any hopes of good ice. I was fishing for what ever. I had a few fish come in but couldnt get any hook ups. I was fishing 10FOW and could easily see bottom so not sure if the fish could see me or what. I did talk to a guy coming in while I was going out who reported 2 walleye rite away in the morning then they shut off, alot of lookers and no takers is what he told me. Another week or so and the ice should be o.k. out there, warmer temps predicted for the weekend (24* , but still below 32*) is not going to speed the ice making process any.

I have not been to Wappo yet, I dont imagine the ice could be any better out there as Wappo is alot bigger lake and much deeper as well. I’ll call my uncle who has a cabin out there and try to get an ice report from Wappo. You might be able to get onto Bear Trap Lake…..hmmm, should have went out there today.

At least I got to soak a line today anyways
