    Hey all!
I realize this is a little late, but I am heading up north tomorrow to fish with a buddy who just moved to a house near Gunlock lake. The plan as of now is to fish them hard Saturday in hopes of finding good walleye or panfish action. If anyone has any tips or techniques for fishing these lakes and would care to share, it would be greatly appreciated. Also, in the event that we are unable to get onto any consistent fishing Saturday, we will be expanding our fishing grounds. Thinking about trying Birch in Vilas and Squirrel in Oneida. Any info on these lakes or other good ones to try in the area would be of great help….this is my one fishing trip for the year and I hope to make it a good one. Thanks to all and have a safe and successful holiday weekend!!

We ended up doing okay. On Gunlock we caught enough medium perch and bluegills to have a nice fish fry for three of us. We tried the Shish, but didn’t have a lot of success out there. Sunday night we headed over to Squirrel for about 3 hours before dark and would have liked to stay later, but I forgot my headlamp and lighted slip bobbers at home. We didn’t catch any walleyes out there, but due to the clarity of the water I can see that there is most likely a strong bite after dark. All in all it was a fun weekend. The people I was with haven’t fished for walleyes much so we targeted mostly panfish. I hope to maybe make it up there one more time before the lakes freeze over, but if not I will for sure be doing some ice fishing up on the lakes in the area.

Squirrel has been one of the better lakes in the past couple of years. Wished I could have imparted that info before you left.
