I read the VHS rules just to clarify, it sounds like I can bring Leech’s as long as they are in “tap water” in contaners? I read the rules and ther is allot of mumble jumble. Minnows are a non no if want to bring them.

    Might be going to Wissota

I work for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources here in Wisconsin and you can bring leeches and minnows as long as they are from a registered bait dealer which means that they have been tested for VHS. If you trap your own bait you cannot bring it and fish with it.

That statement simply does not jive with the published DNR regulations, particularly with respect to minnows:

    Quote:

You may not possess or use minnows for bait that are obtained outside of Wisconsin. This does not apply if the minnows were imported under a Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) permit, or if they were obtained from Iowa or Minnesota and are being used only “between the tracks” on the Mississippi River.

Kirt, if you want minnows, you’ll be able to find plenty locally.

Nope not worried about minnows that I will get local, but I have leech’s that I have saved and figured since I got them may as well use them. So that is what I am looking at.

Saw the post about local bait shops
