How big are those fish? Just wondering, cant really tell from the picture. I havent been up to polk county for a couple months, seemed to be really slow on our usual lakes the few times i went up there.
these are the same fish in a 5 gal pail. Never really measured them so you’ll have to take it from the bucket pic. I would say most ran 7-10 inch’s for the gills and crappies were 9-12.
Like I said before ice fishing season I bought one of those map books of NW Wisconsin and just started reading on each and every lake and talking to locals and the nearest bait shops. Most were more than willing and helpful. Then you can pretty much narrow down your search from there as I did. One thing of note was if the nearest bait shop said it was good but a local said it wasn’t then it was worth the time to check it out. 8 times out of ten they ended up being gems.
Vman.. Am i still gonna be able to get out on the ice this weekend up there? I called the bait shop, and the guys says…. “its your [censored] if you fall through.” I guess I might have to pole vault the open water.
Ice was just fine today… 12+ inches in some places still. Getting on the ice wasnt too much trouble either. One of the lakes we fished we just walked right on no problem. Fish were not biting the greatest though, we did manage to find some nice bluegills, but only got 8 solid keepers once we found some good fish finally. Biggest gill was 9 1/2 inches.
red is correct I to was on some polk county lakes and from Tuesday until Friday ice conditions improved greatly. We did well on gills. Still be careful not all lakes are the same.
