Just got back from Lake Alice and Mohawksin. Great Smallmouth, Pike and Walleye. We were on Mohawksin when a Mill explosion occured on the lake killing 3 people. For hours we heard the emergency vehicles coming and going. In a small town like Tomahawk,, the rest of the week was very subdued.

Lots of 30ish” pike. Biggest Smallmouth 19″. Walleye were small and scattered on Alice. Had to fish slow and small. (Live Bait 1/8 or 1/16 oz jigs) On Mohawksin, they were midsized and agressive. We caught them on Cranks. (kept 4 17″. Got about 16 keepers over 14 inch”. but nothing over 20″.

    So here’s what worked.

White and chartruese Spinnerbaits for Pike and smallmouth
Chartruese Normans Wood N Smallmouth and Walleye
Berkely Frenzy in Blue/gold for Smallies and Walleye
Tube jigs and 3/16 oz jig and craw for Smallmouth.

Both lakes are stained. All days but one were fairly windy.
Found smallies in 4-9 feet. Mostly around drop offs or weed edges.

Couple of Muskie bite offs. Actually saw one take a crank, cut the line, and spit the crank out. I reached down and took the crankbait and the beast hardly moved. Looked about 38 inches.

One morning we had to leave the lake because of lightning. I had just had a bite off on a Berkely Frenzy. We met a couple of guys at the ramp musky fishing. They said they got a 20 inch smallie on the same point as my bite off.
The next day, one of the guys boated over and showed us a picture of a 40″ tiger muskie they caught on the same point about an hour after we all got back out on the lake the day before.,,, Then he handed me my Frenzy which he said they found floating on the weed edge just before they caught the muskie,, on a #3 Mepps. Not a big muskie bait by any meanns!
