OK, so I buy my first annual launch pass for this lake, and did my opener on it yesterday afternoon with my son and a buddy. Expectations were running high, as spring fishing on Pine is not often a disappointment, but we ended up with a BIG SKUNK in the boat. Tried to find the crappie for the first couple hours, and never even saw any panfish in the shallows. Switched over to rigging medium suckers, and played with plastic for a bit, working the deeper breaks, inside turns, and humps, and not even a hit. Water was the clearest I’ve ever seen out here; with a good pair of Oakleys, was able to spot my plastic at the bottom of 20 fow. Very few weeds anywhere….don’t know if it’s still too early, or if ongoing eradication efforts are putting a hurting to the vegetation growth….looked pretty barren down there. Only fish we saw were a school of 10 inch bass hanging around a submerged tree near a boathouse…that’s it.
So nine more launches to get my money’s worth for the annual pass….things can only get better from here on.
