I pumped because in a month me and 4 of my buddy’s are taking a trip to the Northwoods of Wisconsin and are planning (like always) to land a couple of big Muskies.

We’ll be staying on Lake Namekagon, which has some massive fish reported in it. Anybody have any pointers on what bait to through during this time?

hard to beat a Mepps #5 Musky Killer. black hair, silver or gold blade. Suicks are good. Sucker’s are good bait. Make sure you rig it up on a “quick-strike” rig.

Weeds Weeds and more weeds is the name of the game for Namekagon… Burning bucktails, burts, suicks, top water, and grinding spinnerbaits.

Can be a bugger to see fish at times, but if you do contact them your efforts are usually rewarded with a good sized musky.

This is the time of year to put away anything that resembles “small”. Go to the big box and get out the serious stuff. Do not underestimate plastics as I’ve had experiences with these outperforming live bait. There’s no question that many (if not all) muskies have moved into shallow weeds so draw them out with your best non-fouling, weed covering lures and keep the boat moving slow with a couple of “dangle rods” offering a choice of “appetizers” away from your casting/figure-eighting areas. Double Tail plastics and Kilr Eels are proven catchers. Fall is here so play hard!!!
