Going to fish Bone the weekend after 4th of July.
As a muskie hound, I’m pretty excited. Have never fished it before and wondering if there are any lures/colors that work best on this water. I’m hoping that with the cooler weather and rain we’ve had the water temp won’t be that high. Hoping for a late June pattern. Any suggestions?

I don’t fish Bone a lot, but I’ve caught fish and raised fish early in the morning on topwater baits(top raider). Last year there was a hot bite in the shallows using a giant jackpot. By 9 or 10 am I’m usually off the lake. Haven’t had much luck fishing after dark. Hope you see this before you go. Last year there was a

I hear the recreational traffic is high. It will be early morning/evening fishing for me. I’ve got Top Raiders..

Hey Steve there are tons or were tons of perch in Bone lake. I would give whatever I had in perch colors a serious try. Maybe even run some bucktails deeper than normal in the brass colors. For your best musky baits try Crazy D’s tackle in Elk Mound. He makes custom bucktails for guides everywhere and can tell you what colors work and where. Steve

    Leiny:

I will second the perch thing. Was up there with TJ while in school in ’89 or ’90 and we caught the devil out of them. Perch is my favorite of the multicolored bait for muskie. Otherwise I am a black or white guy!!! Another thought would be some kind of lure that resembles 4″ – 6″ bluegills. There are tons of them also.

Also will start investigating Indian lake for you. Will pass on info as I can get it.

I’m going to fish it the 11th thru the 13th of July.
Perch colored sounds like it’s the way to go.

Nice lake, no muskie sighted. Lots of forage right now. I did catch a fair number of nice LM bass though. With the wife and 2 yr old Lab along it was tough to seriously target the ‘skies. Going to go back in the fall with some quick strike sucker rigs. Lots of awesome weed beds

I was able to fish Bone for the first time on Sunday. Did catch a good number of LM also. I did get my first muskie that hit my 3″ Skitter Pop. It was a 27 incher, but I can now see why people will work so hard to catch one. It was quite the fight!
Most of the Bass I caught were around 14-15″, so it was a very fun day, on a lake that I will go back to soon.

Congrats on the muskie. I really like the lake. Were you in deeper or shallow water? Guide friend of mine told me to target deeper water and around the buoys.

I was actually in about 8 feet of water running the popper along the docks, when the musky hit.
For the LM, I was in a little deeper water bouncing a plastic worm off the bottom.
Really a nice lake, and a lot of fun to fish. I’m looking forward to going back soon!
