I had the pleasure of getting out and doing a little pre-fishing for a local tournament on Tainter Lake with a site regular (coot). We went out on Wednesday evening and fished for walleye’s, smallmouth, and northerns. It was a picture perfect eveniing with no bugs. I’m not sure of the totals that we caught but I think it was 1 northern, a lot of smaller bass, and 7 or 8 walleye’s of which 4 were legal or keepers. We put them all back to swim and be caught again (maybe today during the tourney by coot). The water temp was still under 65 degrees, (not green yet) and all walleye’s were caught on Nuckle Ball Jigs tipped with leechs, crawlers or a ring worm. Looking forward to a little trolling out there in the future. Thanks for the trip Coot. Steve

A closer look at one of my favorite colors of Nuckle Ball Jigs Notice how nice that fish is holding the jig. LOL

    Leiny:

Most of those pic’s were a bit far away from any thing of good detail. How am I supposed to challenge my memory like that!!! LOL

Pic 2 looking west into channel mouth?
Pic 3 looking west with Elk Point in background?

I really am guessing bigtime. Looks liike you guys had fun and it was always more fun to fish before or after the bloom.

Good guesses, however, all pictures were taken on the lower lake. I will try to post a list of the top 5 (will have to call someone to get results). I know most of them either by only their first name or just by their face. We weren’t able to get our ‘eyes going ,Steve, so unfortunately my name wasn’t in the top 5. It was a tough bite, the guys that cashed checks sure earned them.

I thought we left those fish in there for you to catch during the tourney? I guess I’ll have to get back up there with some of those Fin-Tech Jigs and catch some supper. Is the limit 3 on Tainter? It was a fun evening even though the fish ended up with lock jaw during the tourney. Hey Mark one of the cool things about digital camera’s and the software is you can crop them to the size you want therfore removing landmarks that may give you to much detail. However in this case that wasn’t needed but good guesses anyway. I’ll try and get some landmarks in the next photo just for you. LOL Hey Coot let me know when you want to hit it again. Can anyone guess what that hat on coots head says? Steve

    Leiny and coot:

I would have never guessed the lower lake. Spent most of my time fishing at Jake’s as I worked there for four and half years. I did have succes on the lower lake one day though. We managed to get into a rapala shoreline walleye bite. Could be a longer story, but not worth writing it all here. I’ll let you know over that beer this fall.

Did have some good success on the upper lake and going toward Hay Creek. Also better stories over that cold one!!!

coot, sorry to hear the tourney didn’t go so well.

Hey Mark how far from Eagle River are you. My wife and I are thinking of a long weekend up that way about July 19th. I’m not sure if were going to trailer our rig up or just use our brother and sister in laws pontoon.I figure something should be biting up there somewhere. They are on Indian Lake ever fish that one? It looks like we will be staying in Rhinelander and comutting to the lake about 15 miles. No need to investigate just go out there and put marker bouys on all the good spots on the 18th would ya. LOL I was just wondering if you had ever fished it. My brother in law used to fish it but I think they mostly just ride around in the pontoon now.Boy live on a great fishing lake and just tool around in a pontoon. I do believe he has a ten pounder on the wall from that lake from several years back. I’ll be after the perch, smallies and eyes while I’m there and anything else thats biting. Catch you later. Wanna try and hit the water for a while? Steve

I am working on some friends for the info and looking for a lake map so that I can try to talk seriously about it with anyone. I would love to try and hook up, but my brother and Mom & Dad are going to be up the same weekend. Stay in touch and we still might be able to work something out. Once up here my number is 715-356-5216.
